Gaspar threads (merged)

Getting back to Polak down back for a second. I also haven't really seen him down there. Can Polak take on a strong leading forward, eg a Hall or a Fervola? Has he got the speed? There was a lot of talk about his lack of physical condition when he came to the tiges (but to his credit he worked hard over the summer but it was stated he needed another pre-season), is this why he isn't in an accountable defensive position and you have ruddy Bowden on Hall, Rocca etc.

For mine I salute Gas for his contribution but I think this year is going to be both his last and a tough one for him, and that assumes he stays fit. Some of the whippings Gas has consistently handed out over his career have been absolutely priceless and I think too easily forgotten by posters. At his height I think it was only Lloyd who managed to consistently towel the Gas-man up. Its been a great career and our stunning inability to have a replacement ready for his retirement is truly pathetic.

take WCE for example. their fwd line is pretty ordinary to say the least. gun midfield yes, but how many times has opposition teams kick huge scores against them?? as stated previously, when you have an ordinary side, the first thing to get right is the defense. thats why Polak should be situated at CHB, with him and joel, the keystones. players like raines, lids, JON when fit, to run of the flanks. we desperately need a FB, which is where Thrursfield must play when fit, and then ur starting to see a potential backline to stop opposition and allow us a chance of being competitive and winning games consistently. no good kicking 100 pts and the opposition kicking 130.........
if we can see this, why cant Wallace and co??????????????

Agree... A team can get by with an ordinary forward line, if they've got a top notch defense and midfield.

As long as the forwards know how to lead into space, the midfielders can hit them lace out.

Clearly, after the dropping of Moore and McGuane, the player that was going to be keeping Gaspar out of the side has to be Polak. He's the only one who could defend a KPP that hasn't been dropped.

Have been thinking the same thing General. It's not Moore, McGuane or Thursfield that have KO'd Gas.
It's Polak's success in defence that's sealed Gaspar's fate.

Not so sure he meant Polak. Terry specifically mentioned the kids. I suspect he jumped the gun with the comment and the kids haven't lived up to the wrap.

LOL at the article in the Age today where Gaspar says that Danny Frawley was the best coach he had had.

This from a guy that has played under Terry Wallace and probably even Ron Barassi when he was at the Swans.

what a bizarre thing to say? Can we still drug test Gas?

Polak's 22, turning 23 in a month. Some around here still call Krak a kid (Seems a bit too old to be a kid to me), but nonetheless it's what Wallace's definition of a "kid" is. Hell, Pagan called Byron Pickett a kid 2 days ago, and he's nearing retirement. :hihi

I'm just trying to find reason in what he's said Rosy, and surely if the 2 young lads have been dropped and Polak remains in the side it has to be Polak. Otherwise, oh dear, Terry has made his second biggest gaffe for the year. (first being the 2011 statement).

Gas played finals under Frawley, as much as I dislike Spud, I think Spud made the wrong decisions recruiting wise that were totally the wrong direction for the club, other than that, and gaining us the wooden spoon and the spitter, and.....so on, I think he did OK? Time will tell. I am a bit split on this so don't condemn me for being a Spud lover, 'cause I am not.

I'd say with hindsight Terry would probably have handled and explained things differently.

The correct quote was Frawley for a couple of years, after that "he lost his way a bit".

If I could find the article on the www I'd post it as Darren has a lot of positive things to say and (it seems to me) exhibits no bitterness. He shows more charity to the RFC than has been directed towards him from other places.

Here you go Andy.....

Good read, thanks Missing.

Surprising to see that Gaspar actually says Wallace is fairly honest with the media. Goes against what some people here say. Or, is it more that he spins with the players as much as he spins with the media. ??? :spin ???
