gc17 maybe a no go.

Extravagant TV rights dollars mean that they’ve got more resources than ever to prop a couple of expansion clubs up for 25 years or so until they can stand on their own 2 feet.

Gold Coast wont 'work' for 20 years minimum.

Brisbane were a basket-case for a good dozen years or so until the long-deferred Fitzroy merger, then they cleaned up three flags. Sydney took longer, but only because the Doc Edelstein excesses set them back a few years and they had to start again in the early nineties.

The reality is the AFL will commit to them and give them whatever they need to come good. High profile coaches and players, money, mergers, extra players, bigger salary caps, extra prime time TV, whatever it takes.

If I were a Kangaroos fan I wouldn't be feeling comfortable just yet.

A team in West Sydney would be the bigger risk item. It is noted that even when Sydney fall off the pace (success wise) the support base dwindles and the pundits out there make plenty of pessimistic oriented comment! Not what the AFL chiefs want to hear.

Sydney can't get 10K crowds to their rugby league games, how on earth is West Sydney going to survive? At least Queensland is full of Victorians.

from what i can gather and i admit i have no idea about the sums required to get gc17 established 300 mil is required to get the them up and going.
thus far they have raised 20 mil with the majority of that coming from the gold coast city council.

all i can say is they want to be damn good tv rights next time around. but lets face it at some stage the television companies are going to collude and come up with a sytem where all three get a slice of the pie a bit like now only thing is thay wont be paying as much.

Richmond haven't for more then 20.
We may not have much success but at least we haven't been a constant leech off other clubs.

Gold Coast will be an albatross around the AFL(an by extension our) necks for decades.

Birsbane and Sydney were the first club in their states and got the tradition and good part of the Swans and Fitzroy supporters.

Who the hell is going to barrack for GC--it's like bringing Port Melbourne into the AFL.It's going to take a generation to build even a modest supporter base I reckon.

Terrible idea

Understand what you're saying Jesus Feet, but you're forgetting that the AFL obviously considers both the GC and WS to be such high growth areas that they can build an entirely NEW supporter base.

That's OK CMT. Get out the mini bus and provide more wheelchair spots at the ground.

will they get of the ground. brad hardy said on radio that the big item on the agenda when the afl meets over cousins wont be cousins. it will be the paltry amount of money thats been raised to get gc17 up and going. word is they have raised a paltry amount the money needed.
this little adventure of *smile* demi could well be the biggest drain on football resources ever if it goes ahead. we all know the idiot will let his pride rule what really should be done.

Are you a chicken farmer Claw? Seems to be a subliminal message in your post.
