Geelong, I'm not so convinced

After listening to the game last weekend i thought about something, yes the cats are very physically intimidating but i am not so sure they are the toughest team in the comp.

Some of the frees against richmond were complained by the comentators even.

seeing as the cats arew missing probably their biggest toughest player in Josh Hunt and it seems Mooney has curbed his wayward ways i dont think they are as tough as they were

players like steve johnson, paul chapman, matthew stokes all seem to be able to take as good a dive as that uzbekistan soccer player. maybe i am reading too much into it but the cats earn a lot of hard ball hence they earn a lot of frees and chapman can be a tough player but it seems to be only when it suits them and when they can con the umps.

just wanted to hear some of your thoughts

No doubt their not the "toughest" team in the comp from a physicality perspective but they're not that far off. I also think that they are the best all-round team in the the comp as they might not have the physical players like a Hawthorn but they have better depth and skill than Hawthorn which balances them out better.

agree knighter, johnson, stokes, chappy are good players

but they should be embarrassed about there diving

They look vulnerable on the weekend with Otto out, I suspect father time has started to catch up with them.

Either that or we are actually quite a good team, but sadly I think it’s more the Cats decline

:shakehead Wow, this is a trippy thread. Pple commenting on Geelong as soft after playing us. Are we in bizarro world or something?

Not really Azza. We took it to them in the 3rd and ran all over them.. Without the dodgy free kicks we would have been a fair away infront.

That obviously equates to Geelong being duds because the alternative, that we're getting better, is unthinkable.

The Bulldogs are a seriously sneaky chance to pinch a flag if Tommy Williams and Andres Everitt come on.

This years flag is wide open.

Was thinking the same thing. Obviously not may went and saw Round 1 Geelong v Hawthorn. They are still plenty tough enough, skilled enough, fit enough - enough said!

They are missing a few aren't they? Wouldn't be too concerned, they will be there on the day it counts most.

I wish we were as soft as Geelong

i think people have missed my point, god we are no where near as tough as geelong at the ball, but you see some of the "push in the back" or "high contact" frees and in order to get them they will often fall like a sack of potatoes, we are not as tough at the ball but if yo look at richo even when his arms are chopped he still takes the mark, instead of playing for a free

Falling like a dead man is something I've seen a fair bit of this season. It seems AFL has caught up with soccer when it comes to the diving stakes. It seems now the slightest pressure from behind will have a player dropping his knees and falling forwards.

Not a good look for the game.

I didn't see the Cats as soft at all, they did get caught up in the hype around the match and paid their opponents no respect and only managed to get back into gear in time to save their reputations. One thing they haven't fixed from last year is their kicking for goal, it was ordinary and better sides than Richmond (most sides in the comp) will punish them for it. They'll also struggle in the ruck without the Donut.

Thought the Cats have done very well so far in 2009.

Cleaned up the NAB Cup as an entree.

Haven't lost a H&A game as yet, despite having some significant injuries.

Nah.....the western district hasnt changed much in 49 years....I was banking on the cats to really stamp their trademark last year....Im a believer in history repeating itself.I might be being a bit premature but the mindset and the expectation may be just too much.but Im sticking my neck out as usual......thats OK ...The saints Hmmmmmm.....

i do wonder if their arrogance will be their undoing. they got away with it on the weekend but will they continue to?
history is littered with flag favs, normally the reigning premier, who start slowly but people think can flick the switch and everything will be good but they cant. the cats havent lost yet but that may come.
or it may not and we may get as close as anyone.

Richo still takes the mark because he learnt ages ago that being Richo, he is not going to get a free kick anyway. I don't equate playing for a free kick as anything to do with your toughness. If you can suck the umpire into a free kick then why not. The Johnsons and Chapman are always there when there's a hard ball to win. Geez I'd love to have either of those two at the Tigers.
