Geelong v Richmond game thread.

Actually i,ve been a bit on the fence in regards to Hilton however after today he should be shown the door.Injury has cost him not so much speed but lack of agility.

If Staff continues obvioulsy TW and Satff have thought about it long and hard.

We know Staff isn't the future, but lets all hope that if he does continue, he is servicable.

He done very little today to convince me today that he should go around next year but unfortunately ( and fortunately for some of his admirers ;)) I see him having one last year with the RFC next year. I base my opinion not only on today though but the whole season in general.

Agree Stafford's time is up.TW would be silly to keep him on list  for 2006.

Campbo said tonight he thinks Staff is going around again next year.

Maybe it will be absolute last minute stuff with Greg and we won't know until the end of the year if he is going to be retained. He isn't tradeable and Rosy has previously posted that he has been suffering from a back injury which has effected his mobility. He has skills and aggression but he is as slow as treakle at the moment and can't get off the ground...If either Knoble or Hall are traded, (no matter if we do get to pick up Ryder, Meyer or whomever in the draft,I'd say Terry would wan't to keep him.)

It may all come down to his back and trade week.

Hilton was sometimes made to look slow to day but please don't forget he is coming off a knee reconstruction and that his opponent today is one of the most skilled small forwards in the game.

If he is going to have one last year he will need to sign a three year contract to get 22 games played.

I think there's a difference between Gas and Hilts. Gaspar came back too early from injury. Hilton wasn't rushed. Gaspar had set a high benchmark for performance previously, Hilton - in reality - is a guy who tries hard, is aggressive, but he isn't ever going to knock on the door of all australian selection. I think it's sad, cause he's determined, but he really doesn't have the talent. With Gaspar and Kelleway down back already, we've got two guys with determination than skills.

I don't think it was a fair day to judge stafford by. It was blowing a gale and not really a game for marking inside 50. Judging by his game against the bulldogs, I'd think he's got something to offer in 10 or so games next year.

If Stafford's body is right he should play on.
Hilton deserves another year - has he ever had an injury free pre-season and season? I think people are too harsh on him - he's had more injuries than most players and unluckily they have come at crucial times when he is just finding form. If he can get an injury-free pre-season and play into some form he will be a good player for us. Sure there is a risk but with the high number of young players on our list (20 players aged under 21) there is a need to keep some more mature players for experience and their stronger bodies.

Lots of "if"s in there MT and I would agree with most of what you say IF Hilton was any good.

I don't care how desperately we need players in the 24-26 age group, Hilton isn't the answer. Just like I've been saying you can't play young guys just because they're young (ie they have to earn the right) you can't play guys in that age group just because they're 24-26. Hilton is way too slow to be playing in defence. He's still pushing people in the back etc cause he can't get to marking contests in time. I'm afraid his time *has* to have come. I'll be disappointed if we keep him to play in a back pocket.

There is no way Hilton will be delisted.Maybe a trade but I really doubt it.The only problem with Rory's game is what is going on above the shoulders. With another preseason post reconstruction, plus more of Terry and Kingy in his ear, he will be a pretty good for us in 06. Forget about delisting him.

Agree momentai. Just wish he could have a bit more pace.

GO TIGES!!!

The real issue with Staff is how his body is holding up. His entire career has been blighted by injury, he's a handy bloke to have, but only if he's fit.

But he hasn't been fit or injury free for a long time.

Made the trek down to the Cattery on Sunday. Really thought we could have won had a few things gone our way - like Lid's great run and shot at goal which hit the inside of the goal post - dang it.

Once again, our turn overs at crucial times cost us dearly, as well as freakish shots at goal by the opposition (al la Johnson in the 2nd term).

I'd like to congratulate Rory Hilton on having the greatest dacking for 2005 :clap He pulled those shorts up with great dignity - well done!
