Generation Next in Full Swing

I think Gaspar has clearly shown what the problem has been these last couple of years with our senior players. It's all about ME ME ME. None of them actually played/play for the team. Surely after all these years at Richmond, with the club sticking by him during his injuries and woeful matches he could have atleast hung around at Coburg to help with the development of our younger kids, and a backup incase we get a large number of injuries. He's shown how selfish and disloyal our group has been.

Can't believe i'm as happy as i have been in a long time regarding the RFC and we sit 0-5 and most likely will be 0-6!!! We have not looked this good in years!! Add another 2 potential star signings at years end through the draft and things are looking rosy.

waddaloadarubbishifeveriheardit

from the reports i have heard, gas is sticking around, but not as an active player. he would be one of the last ones you could say ME ME ME....

so why isnt he still playing?

oh yeah good old darren thinks he's "too good" for vfl

with the inclusions of moore and hughes into the senior side and also thursfield sooner or later coburg is starting to look thin for talls, if it was good enough for stafford and chaffey why not gaspar?

its because he is a selfish player and we had to live with it at richmond but not any longer

the crux of it all is -

Wallace went into this season in full swing (as at november 06) with hope that with all hands on deck i.e Brown firing, Simmonds, Kingsley, Coughlan we could have made a real fist of the year & given the club (the youth) a massive boost be proving we are good enough for finals.

Wallace would have seen the above players being intregal parts of out structure in games we would have set ourselves to win & therefore create a wave of excitement & passion which transforms into members, crowd figures etc that can keep the club on an upward curve on & off the field.

Now that the season has unravelled to a 0-5 start & therefore no hope of finals, TW has bitten the bullet that rather than go on & eke as many wins as possible, He has officially ended the careers of some & unofficially of others ( Krak P Bow & Tiv).

From now on it is clear TW will be playing the young guns & keeping the bare minimum of experienced players that he feels can physically protect & show a modicum of leadership to the "next generation".

leysys gotta say its exciting.

100% spot on

there you go, adds to my frustration if the club was serious about a youth policy the should have used Gaspars spot on the team to draft a young kid.
Gaspar was on the veterans list so we couldn't have replaced him with a kid, he was effectively a free player

Got any other crap reasons to bag the club?

The thing that disappoints me about Gas going, and it would be the same if we adopted a kids only policy by getting rid of more senior players, is that we could be left right up the creek without a paddle if we get some injuries.

We should definitely be focussing on kids but only play them when their form merits it. The regulars from the last few years should be willing to give 100% at Coburg if a kid forces them out of the seniors. Unfortunately our players ahve been pretty much guaranteed a spot and mightn't take kindly to the changing of the guard. It will show if they're made of the right stuff ot not.

The time for major decisions is at the end of the season and I think it's far too early this season to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Rosy, I see what you are saying but hopefully it is time to see how flexible the likes of Cleve, Luke, Kelvin, Graham and Jay really are. We need to STRONGLY! assess our list (particularly talls for next season). No doubt Gas is a much loved character and has been great for the club but the game is so fast and accurate now and Gas is neither.

Some players really need to be elevated to get the best out of them - great learning ground at Coburg, but i belive Meyer, McGuane, White and soon Riewoldt will benefit from playing the game at the pace and skill level of the seniors.

Gas retiring leaves us with a big whole IMO. Would feel alot better if A. Kellaway was still on the list. Or R Hall was fit and getting a game. McGuane, Bowden, Moore and Thirsty all lack size!

I think Polak's job in defence last week might have had a fair bit to do with the decision.

...and Thursfield being named in the best.

And McGuane's rising form! AND Moore being the BOG after Polo last week!!

12 months ago we didn't have anyone pushing to be capable of holding FB. Then Thursfield plays a blinder and gets injured. We recruit Polak who is reaching his potential. Moore takes a step up and now looks capable of equalling Gaspar's output. And a big surprise in McGuane who was played forward and playing solidly and being switched up back!

It's fantastic that 12 months ago we had nobody yet now we have Polak, McGuane, Moore and Thursfield. Oh, and if everything fails, there's still Jay, Cleve and Bowden capable but not preferrable ;D

Richo can learn to play as a backman, we'd get better value from that setup allowing space for our young forwards to learn the game with him up the other end playing all-in Gorilla wrestling.

He'd want to work pretty hard on his defensive side of the game if that was the case David. Cant see him being put back there though but I liked the way TW used him up the ground more last week. Let him run between CHB and CHF - he would still be very hard to match up on.

We will finish the year well

We need to stop being short-sighted and start looking long-term

I expect a strong finish to the season. For the simple reason we are finally taking the path of youth

I am a firm believer that our young players are better than our older players, therefor we should be better once they get familar with playing together.

I really hope the final cleanout of 'not good enough's' happens at the end of this year, and Generation Next kicks off Round One 2008 with all the guys we agree will be part of the Richmond Future.

Gee that's a great youth policy, Give a 30 year old defender's who cant kick position to a 32 year old forward who cant kick - Generation Loopy!

summed up perfectly, i'm not sure why some dont get it

People !!!!!!

The thing which you must remember is that we dont need to replace with hacks to field a side. We are concentrated on the future and holding up the cup in That 1 Day In September.
