Geoff Raines on SEN now

Scoop, you asked me whom Essendon swapped to Collingwood for Raines & Richardson. I think they were the 2 Essendon premiership HBFs, Carey & Bradbury, but I could be mistaken.
I remember that the loss of both these 2 boys, around that time, really upset the internal morale at Bomberland. A big reason why they had a fair gap between 1985 and 1993.

and Ronnie Andrews too Phant??

Heard the Raines interview...brilliant. Get chills watching Andrew play now. So so so wrapt to have him at the Club.

1982...we were far and away the best side in the comp that year. Devastating to lose that flag to those scumbags...in my mind we lost by 10 goals but in reality it was just a couple of kicks. And then all hell broke loose...bidding wars to get Phillip Walsh and Craig Mckellar (??). Rainesy (one of my favourites) and BT leave, it becomes apparent that Club legend Bourke is at the root of the trouble...the Club fell apart and is still feeling the pain today.

Ah yes, Ronnie Andrews.

Gee, Andrews was a tough footballer.
Mind you, by that stage Andrews had not recovered from a knee reconstruction, consequently lost his pace, so Essendon lost little in Andrews himself.
Many say that the Bombers poor '83 GF, they lost by 70-odd points, was due to Andrews being omitted.

'Richmond Tigers, THE most feared team in the lan..." ... oops sorry i forgot its 2006 now isnt it :hihi

I read another interview about Geoff Raines in which he said he regreted leaving Richmond and was happy his son is at the club. If he had his time again, he would have stayed at Richmond.

You were right it was just Carey and Bradbury in 86
Ronnie was moved on in 84 and played for Collingwood with Raines in the 84 finals series.

Raines went to Collingwood for Noel Lovell, Terry Domburg and $200,000

we then went out and got Peter McCormicjk, Craig Stewart, John Annear and Phil Walsh later on after we lost Raines and Cloke then BT in 84/85.

Missing33 said last nite interview replay is on Sat nite at 8pm.

Loved this thread, brings back so many memories. When I finally perfect my time machine, first thing I'll do is go back and talk Rainsey out of leaving Tigerland :upside
