Geoffrey Raines will be on Grumpy Old Men - May 9, 8.30 pm

I didn't see him in a Bummers jumper but I'm sure you're correct iitb.  The only jumper Rainsey should have worn is ours, and interestingly he said if he had his time again that's probably the way it would have been.

Weren't those Bears outfits shockers.  :vomit

Didn't see it tonight but I recall GR saying his time at the Bummers was miserable and he couldn't wait to leave (not sure of the reasons). Was there any comment on that?

I don't like to mis-quote anyone jb so if no one replies I'll watch the reply and jot down some notes on what was said rather than rely on my dodgy memory. He discussed his time at all of the clubs.

Didn't say alot about the Bombers other than it was a short stay & he didn't appear to enjoy it.

Great interview & very funny. One of the best I've seen on GOM.What a great player he was & his son will become one for Richmond also.

Agreed. KB mentioned that although a "prettyboy" had a lot of mongrel in him. The other thing that i didn't realise was that KB actually tried to get him back to punt road when he became coach!

Wasn't aware of this either.I think by that time Raines was enjoying the sunshine too much on the Gold Coast.

A family insider told me long ago that Geoff personally visited Punt Road several times to try and get them interested in taking him back but it was nixed as we were committed to one Terence Wallace.

Really enjoyed the interview. Hell thought he was a superb player, never understood at the time why he left
(I was young).

Really impressed with the respect dripping from KB. You could tell in his body langauge that he thought Raines was one very tough customer. He also thought it was a huge joke that Andrew is being talked up as being tougher than his old man. Raines didn't confirm or deny which actually made it more impressive.

Raines basically impressed the hell out of me and I lapped up every second of the interview. I am with GPB, the interview and the clips took me all the way back to when I was a kid and I just thought the Richmond premiership team was the absolute best. Still a fan today but those were the days, the players were larger than life and Pretty Boy was the best of the best. (I never saw much of Royce).

I also like the way he leaves Andrew alone to make his own way - cool.

Was a great interview...I'm with you Rosy...I usually dislike GOM...can't stand Hawkins one bit just for starters.

Just for those who missed it, they also touched on the fact that Raines won our B&F in 1980, was the media favourite for the Brownlow, yet failed to get a single vote! In those days the Brownlow count was on the GF eve, Raines said he was a bit embarrassed by the whole thing (cameras zooming in on him when his votes were expected etc) and though disappointed, it gave him a little extra incentive to help us maul the Mudpies next day (as we did in the largest GF victory ever!).

He mentioned that a particular umpire (whose name escapes me now) had it in for him and gave the votes in his best games for the year to Clokey! I wonder if he's any relation to a certain umpire going round in the present era? :hihi
