Last year Eade accused Terry of trying to pirate both players and officials.Gilbee was mentioned and so were potential assistants Chris Bond and Leon Cameron, both former Richmond champions.

Gilbee apparently tried pretty hard to get to Richmond but was told he wouldn't be cleared and apparently didn't want to take his chances in the pre season draft,pherhaps b/c Terry wasn't prepared to commit our pre season no1 draft pick because he didn't know whether we could afford it and who else might later become available. :-\

Its worthy of note then that while Terry continues to enjoy the high regard of his old charges, see also Robert Murphy's comments in a recent AGE interview in which he also delivered a fair old broadside to Johnny Howard 8), the same isn't true for Eade who evidently left Sydney having lost the confidence of that playing group.

So the point is... Good for you Terry and there is no reason I can see why you shouldn't now turn up the heat...
I obviously (from earlier recent posts),would love him to use that influence to get Robert Murphy to the club,but he is contracted for another year and I don't think the Dogs would trade even for Johnson, a trade I wouldn't be unhappy with.

However the same level of difficulty wouldn't now exist with either Jordan Mcmahon or Sam Power both of whom I understand are out of contract and who might conceivably get through to us in the pre season draft.

Both are speedy, highly skilled and excellent users of the ball.They are the kind of outside receivers who would fill a role that Tiv has disapointed in this season and imo would compliment our midfield beautifully.By my calculations which admitedly are only guess work, we are going to have some money to spend, IF WE ARE PREPARED TO SACRIFICE OUR OVERALL PERFORMANCE IN 06,AND TRADE A FEW OF OUR OLDER PLAYERS.

In the light of the fact that we are going to apparently take only four d/p then my approach would be to offer the following;

Assuming we finish 12th we would get D/P 8, 24, 40 &56.
I would suggest we might then offer

Chaffey,Tivendale & D/P 56 to Collingwood or Essendon for D/P21 or 23;

Gaspar & Knoble to Carlton for D/P4;

and Krakoeur & D/P40 to North for Harris ... giving us D/P 4, 8, 21or23,24 plus Foley, Harris and Thursfield,
plus say a $300,000/$250,000 on the table offer to either Mcmahon or Power to join us via the pre season draft.

That would certainly get Eade's attention.

I think Gilbee still had a year to go on his contract momentai.

If we could have taken him in the PSD I am sure TW would have.

I had a different recollection Westen but in any event I guess after his performance this season ,there is no way he wd get through to us at 5 in the pre season draft now.

Just goes to show that footy ain't over yet....

The Trades rumours are going to be hotter than the Finals.

Prefer not to take on any of there players unless they are out of contract and want to leave.

I dont want us to be labelled Dog poachers!

Perhaps we could use the doggies as our reserves if Coburg folds.

Considering we've picked up a few from over there, and sent some hacks back that way, it would work out in everyone's favour ;D

NB: Provided everyone is a Tiger's supporter of course

Could somebody please point me to a succinct explanation of the current drafting rules - if in fact such a thing actually exists?

It seems to me that if a player wants to leave one club in order to go to another of their choice, they should be able to - not have to enter into what is essentially a chook raffle where they could end up anywhere. From what I've witnessed unless much is done in the way of convoluted shenanigans - for example the Simmonds business - players don;t have much say in anything.

Thanks!

If you give players the choice of where to play, the Free Agent situation occurs, where players can just go to the highest paying club. Alternatively, players go to their favourite club, and teams such as Collingwood with larger supporter bases end up with players trying to join them, and leave clubs such as the Bulldogs etc. These smaller clubs then need to increase the wages of their players in an attempt to retain their services. It's not a good situation.

Tantie the player has to agree to go to another club so yes he does have a say

Zantuck didn't want to go to the ROos last year which was part of the problem in offloading him. Deal was done by understanding but he only wanted the bummers
