I’ve explained how the BoM measures maximum temperature per minute instead of average per minute, contrary to WMO standards. Go back and read it if you’re interested.

Is that part of the plot of all those scientists worldwide making up climate change despite how much they could make from Koc, Bros funded organisations and mining companies to seed doubt. It's a conspiracy I tell ya.

As for the issue with alarmist language, well boohoo, get over it. How do you expect people to respond when there is a very serious problem which impacts upon the very planet we rely on to sustain us, yet there are plenty who go around with a little jibe here and a little bit of misinformation there all designed to undermine the science. Personally I reckon the scientists, you know, the folk who have been researching their arses off for decades on this stuff, are very restrained when they get some d***head ignoramus telling them they are wrong about something they know a hell of a lot more about than the f***wits undermining them.

poor old MD is getting irritated. They should tone it all down to avoid that. Seriously though it makes me laugh this why do the pointy head leftys have to be so fear inducing line. Its like wanting an ambulance driver to say some slight injuries were sustained in a car crash when the driver was beheaded.
Nah its just plain double standards by the alarmists of all genres! Its tiresome and dividing, gives most people the *smile* just like the dickheads who turn up to rallies and impose their personal boredom onto others.
In your speak, its more like a modern activist who screams about climate change and then goes home to their aircon house in a car wearing clothes made in china and buys food from Coles.
Plain old nobs.

Its a bone head play.
It unites people that would not normally be included in such discussions because its petty and immature most of the time. Reminds me of british tabloids from days gone by, you know titillating but lacking substance.
If people agree that climate change exists but dont conform to the socialists platform about how to combat it, they are cast aside as "climate deniers". If you cannot accept debate dont get on the soap box.

My Tattslotto numbers for next week are 1, 13, 19, 27, 29 and 40. You can bet with confidence, because I have a model.

Just look at the *smile* these alarmist *smile* are spewing.

Climate report casts doubt on Boxing Day Test's future

Temperatures: 21, 24, 28, 33. Looks like a normal range of good cricket weather to me.

Top scientist requests Australian Open to shift venue due to poor conditions

Temperatures: 22, 24, 32, 23, 24, 27, 23, 23, 25, 32, 39, 43, 29, 25. Two hot days near the end when the remaining matches are held indoors.

December 11: Forecasters warn that there will be no significant rainfall for six months
"NSW, Queensland and Victoria are looking very lean for rain and below average rainfall through summer and heading into next winter."

Rain buckets down across NSW as state faces biggest downpour since late 1990s
Queensland's heavy rain continues with flash flooding
Victoria sees second wettest January on record

Is an expert who doesn't know 5% of what he claims to know, really any smarter than the average schmoe who knows his limitations?

Your 1998 cool trend gets a mention in this article, but the same researcher says that overall the Antarctic Peninsular has warmed since the 1940's.

Sure, but I'm not picking out a single cold day like the papers do.

Yesterday's HS promised the day in Melbourne would be "hot and humid". Humid it was, but the top temperature was 23.2.

(The top was actually 22.9 but for a gust of warm wind at 1:00pm which artificially raised the official max to 23.2.)
not sure who you are potting on this....the Herald Sun for misleading you or the BoM for a poor forecast?
( I am assuming HS still uses BOM forecasts, or is their an alt-right weather bureau somewhere?)

You forgot the compulsory debate ending whammy ordained by A Bolt: "and organising their rallies by mobile phones which contain METALS !!!!!! "

Potting the HS for claiming it would be a "hot" day with a forecast max of 26.

Potting the BoM over its methods which boosted the official daily max by 0.3 degrees.

Yes, most global warming is concentrated in the Arctic and to a lesser extent, the Antarctic.

Does anyone know the last time Melbourne failed to hit 30 in the first week of February? The first two weeks? I'm going to approach the BoM for Melbourne's historical temperature data so I can answer such questions myself, but am expecting to be rebuffed.

Christ, where to start?

Karoly did NOT request the Aus Open shift its date. He said that could be an option and there were other options to manage the heat stress.

No significant rain for six months? Typical *smile* from the Daily Fail. Not even close. Here's the seasonal outlook from the BOM on 12/12/19.

Pretty much average rainfall conditions predicted through March except for a contracting area in eastern Vic.

" However, much of Australia has roughly equal chances of being wetter or drier than average for January to March."

"Victoria" sees second wettest January on record? FFS. That's Victoria on Vancouver island in CANADA! Hint in the sub heading "Many records were set in the wet, SNOWY month". Sounds like cracking skiing up at Buller for the Melbourne fans early this year. The interview with an Environment Canada meteorologist is a bit of a give away too, don't you think?

Know your limitations... yes, I agree...

Oh my. I'm not sure how you're ever going to recover from that one....

Ooh. Googled "Victoria wet January" knowing that it was an unusually wet January and that came out near the top. Please replace with

"Statewide, January rainfall was 19% above the long-term January average."

"Melbourne has had its wettest January since 1996, with more than double its usual rainfall for the month"

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01...toria-as-dust-storm-and-rain-collide/11892080

I concede the point when I'm wrong or I mess up. Unlike some others...

I just quoted the headline, I didn't write it.

"You have to think of the health of the players. Spectators are often cooking in their seats... One option can be is to consider moving the tournament to another time of the year when conditions are typically cooler."

He is clearly suggesting it be moved - to clash with the Grand Prix, the autumn racing carnival and the footy. That's "progressive" thinking for you. Consequences be damned.

This is the sort of lunacy you are supporting.
This long weekend Australia and the sport-loving world turned its gaze to Melbourne to watch what experts fear could be the last Australian Open.

https://www.greenpeace.org.au/blog/the-last-australian-open/

Are you a lunatic?
No significant rain for six months? Typical *smile* from the Daily Fail.

There will be no relief for drought-ravaged regions over the summer, with Bureau of Meteorology officials telling a meeting of state and federal ministers there would be no significant rain until at least April.

“NSW, Queensland and Victoria are looking very lean for rain and below-average rainfall through summer and heading into next winter,” NSW Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall said of the BoM briefing.

https://www.theaustralian.com.au/na...n/news-story/49ac0e58ec4b0f89b68a76ff3c1edcee

Jan 2:
Recent rainfall has been beneficial for some drought and fire affected areas. However, several months of above average rainfall are needed to see a recovery from current long-term rainfall deficiencies.

Feb 7:
Heavy rain that has drenched the east coast of Australia has caused flooding and morning peak hour chaos — and much more is expected throughout the weekend and into next week.

The downpour is falling on large swatches of NSW and Queensland... More than 250mm has fallen in some parts of the NSW Northern Rivers, with Byron Bay receiving the most rain — 281mm by 8am causing widespread flooding in the town’s centre, its heaviest falls in 47 years...

Firefighters have welcomed the rain. “We were over the moon to see rain arrive across many parts of NSW, with decent falls in the state’s north,” the RFS said.

You're trying to spin a gold nugget from an utter *smile*. The Bureau's advice could hardly have been wider of the mark. Nothing unusual, though.

Oct 2018: Farmers dismiss BOM rainfall outlooks as worthless (paywalled)
The Bureau of Meteorology’s three-month rainfall outlook is grossly inaccurate, with farmers dismissing it as delivering little, if any, value, despite massive taxpayer investments in new forecasting technologies.
...
It appears little has changed since a team led by University of Melbourne veterinarian Andrew Vizard and his colleagues published a damning critique of the BOM’s rainfall outlooks in 2005.
...
VFF Livestock president Leonard Vallance said he could not run a business on the back of the BOM’s outlooks. “If I did, it’d be the same as going down to Southbank and throwing my money on the tables”.
