1989 - the birth of the boogeyman.

- A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

- He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control.

- The most conservative scientific estimate is that the Earth’s temperature will rise 1 to 7 degrees in the next 30 years.

How long can they string it out?

Blah blah blah.

Bloody laughed watching the news the other night. There was Gretel Thunderpants getting her moment in the spotlight again n then jumping into a diesel powered pollution machine to head off for her next inspired bleat fest. Almost as bad as the time she sailed around the world peeing into a bucket every day, pouring untreated sewage into our poor oceans so she could have a moan about saving the world from all our man made pollution. Pretty sure that fancy yacht was made from kevlar n carbon fibre n with lots of metal bits attached n all that stuff is made in a bunch of smelly n polluting factories that are of themselves made from stuff produced in other smelly n polluting factories ad infinitum.

Half the world don't have decent power, housing, heating, cooling, transport, food, medical care etc etc etc. They'd all like to have some n the only way they're gunna get some is by utilising whatever cheap and reliable resources they can get their mitts on.
Give ya one guess what that's gunna mean n it won't be just China n India telling the privileged to get *smile* for the next forty / fifty or hundred years. Some where, one day, someone will rock up with a whizz bang way of doing things that will actually work in a reliable and cost effective way. But until then we'll simply keep rolling along as best we can n having blah blah blah meetings every couple of years.

By boogeyman you mean to say science.
Funnily enough it's science that's caused all the bloody mess in the first place. Mind you, without it we'd all still be living in caves bare arsed n trying to swat possums for lunch with a tree branch.

Greta was pissed off at not getting an invitation to COP26, hence the swearing since she got to Glasgow. She had one shot at addressing world leaders and has nothing more to contribute except encouraging kids to dodge school for a protest. Her 15 minutes have expired.
they haven't expired, you can't wish her away, but its been 3 years, so quite a bit more than 15 minutes. If you can't even grasp basic concepts of time, what hope have you got with anything complicated?

on the predictions, he was right at best, and not wrong at worst. They have given up on no net temp increase, and also on impacts.

How long can they string it out? you are actually being serious? you are an amazing man. Strong evidence of climate change emerged in the 1950s. Putting that aside and going by your timeframe, 1989 to now 30-odd years, it is not even the beginning of the the eyelid moving for the proverbial blink of an eye, the fact you think that period is 'stringing out' a global process of climate change caused by humans, says so much.

Referring to “we have X years until it’s too late”. At least five versions of this have been and gone, attempting to pressure leaders into change they cannot afford in order to meet the UN’s global economic goals. Yeah it’s good for scaring schoolkids but they probably don’t teach the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf at kinder any more because it’s too traumatic for the little tykes. Yet they go getting them upset with this stuff. It’s mad and bad.

Listen to what she says! She’s appealing to a populist narrative and doesn’t have any worthwhile insights or solutions except, essentially, stop the world immediately.

Are you happy to go without electricity on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to save the world? How long are you prepared to sustain it before you expect to see results? A year? Five?

How many times did she say “blah blah blah”? She’s broken with the UN and is on the road to extremism.

first point no she is not saying stop the world, she is saying we will have to use a lot less. I understand for the extreme right those are the same things, for other people they are not.

Extremism it aint. The arch conservatism of the UN and the powerful nations mean not enough has been don, is being done and even that is not being done fast enough. That is what the science says. But yeah, extremism. good on ya.

Sorry mate, I am not wrong about this.

1974 - Ice Age is coming (from Time who made Greta "Person of the Year")

1636289132959.png

1636289192143.png

1989 as above - 10 years left to act

1991 - 5000 days to save the planet

1636289877798.png

2004 - Britain to turn into Siberia by 2024

1636289341646.png
2005 - "tipping point" reached on methane!

1636290014598.png

2008 - no Arctic ice by 2018

1636289369269.png

2009 - 8 years to save the world

1636289423590.png

2009 - 50 days! to save the world

1636289462721.png

2014 - 500 days to save the world

1636289505970.png

Just opinions, which failed. Some scientific, some less so. I could make a prediction and it would be worth more than the above because it hasn't been proven wrong yet.

Then there is Tim Flannery, the King of Failed Predictions, front and centre in Glasgow, larger than life, bold as brass and being hailed as one of Australia's leading voices on climate.

I can understand Greta being pissed at being passed over for Tim! Nice man, smart man, but he can't see the future either!

Come on snakey, watch the video. "We need immediate drastic annual emission cuts unlike anything the world has ever seen." Ignoring of course that we just had them with Covid...

You'd need to ask her exactly what she has in mind as she's not saying. But to me, "immediate, drastic cuts" means just that.
