Some of you may remember from back in 2004, that I was quite keen on picking up a strong bodied midfield junior from the premiership Calder side named Jesse D. Smith.
I was hoping that we might have picked him up with one of the late picks that we used on McGuane & Limbach.

You may also remember that sensational game he played in the 2004 TAC GF, where he was named BOG.

Jesse Smith has had to wait some time for his debut. He suffered some injuries in 2005, but has had a very good 2006 in a dominant Bullants team. He has also needed some remedial work on his running style to transform it from shuffling to genuine running, eg lifting the knees, etc.

Anyway, I hope he does get his debut guernsey this week. Last week, he was named on the bench but missed out. I hope he does well enough to do himself credit, without actually influencing the game to the extent of causing a Carlton victory.

Jesse's fortes are stoppages & clearances, someone we could do with now. His style is very much like Bentick, whom preceded him in the Calder premiership side the year before. Some of you may recall I was very keen on Bentick as a late pick in 2003.

didn't carlton rookie him and then elevate him Phantom?

Yes.

Another win for the rookie draft system.

Late starter at 20 in AFL Phanto. What size is he?

183cm, 85kg.
Remember, he's a medium inside midfielder, not an outside one.
Inside midfielders like Tuck & Coughlan take that extra time.
His clicking time would be 21/22yo.

Remember that Polo came out of that same draft year and has debuted this year too.

Re: Good Luck, Jesse D. Smith

Phantom yes i do remember how much you wanted this kid at tigerland.

I for one will be keeping an eye on him to see how he goes !

Re: Good Luck, Jesse D. Smith

Also, just as an aside, Ryan Willits makes his debut at Port Adelaide.

Willits & our Pattison are best mates.
Both are pretty well identical players, and both have had to overcome similar flaws in their playing techniques.
Patto went at #16, Willets at #19.

We wish Ryan the best of luck too.

Re: Good Luck, Jesse D. Smith

Best of luck to both kids !

Even though i follow the tigers i am always interested when kids debut and i take a keen interest

Funny isn't it.  We wish these kids all the very best of success ... until they have some!  ;)

Very philosophical for a Friday?

You've got it all wrong Phanto. Fridays are for joy, beer gardens and being at peace with the world and the inner you. MONDAYS are for grumpiness.

Still, there's a part of my Friday self that wants Jesse Smith to be the next Craig Ednie and Willits to end up Jurica-esque. Is it wrong, poor zen, bad karma ... I don't know. God, is it beer o'clock yet? :beer ;)

Yep. To me, that's what footy is all about,

plus the premierships. ;)

Ha I knew it

As per other thread I thought you were referring to me being the wrap for Smith when you obviously meant The Phantom of the Opera.

All is clear now.

For what it's worth, Smith has been delisted:
