Still have my doubts about his competitiveness come finals time.
More than happy to be proven wrong, but question whether he will be a contributor of significance in his rlle when the pressure and intensity ramps up.

I don’t think pressure is his problem. I sense a hesitation or lack of confidence holding him back. Once he believes he belongs and becomes instinctive good things will happen...

Oh East Melbourne!
Interesting... I think being this late in the season and with the Nankervis injury - I think the coaches have decided to back him in for the rest of the year...and banking on a big performance in the next week or two. He is a big big boy... would love to see him attack the ball in the air and give the opposition defenders something to worry about.

Problem with Cholly is always the same. He sleepwalks through games. He is great when the play is right in front of him but he either doesn't read it or doesn't have the oomph to really get from contest to contest. I think it's the latter because his one domination in a VFL game came after CCJ was preferred to him when we had no other ruckmen available against Essendon. I think it stung his pride and he came out all guns blazing.

I just don't think he reads it in the air and is often slow to react. He was better on the weekend but that could have been due to the number of hacked kicks floating his way. On a dry day he's usually fourth-up in the marking contest.

he dominated in the VFL when he opponents were 2 14yos making their VFL debuts, or at least close.

that and body strength. when bodies fly in a pack in loses balance. i think he knows it so he tries to come from wide. occasionally it works, mostly it doesnt and it looks terrible cos he doesnt impact the contest.

Wow. Must really believe in his upside now.
Wonder if they see him as a fill in for Jack

I'm not always Mabior's biggest fan. I guess my biggest issue is his seemingly relaxed attitude/approach to the contest. Not always strong or competitive in the one-on-ones.
That said, he continues to surprise me with some of his attributes.
Reckon he showed some glimpses of being potentially a good player today against Essendon.
More than happy that he has re-signed with the Club.
If he can develop a stronger attitude to the contest and have a good pre-season then I reckon he might be able to cement a more prominent role in the seniors.

Needs to look like he trying at least.
Those half hearted attempts were putrid.

Mabs plays well on Sunday & he might yet find himself in the Grand Final side. I wasn't convinced by the two specialist ruck setup last night. I thought we looked slow.
Toby has left himself a bit vulnerable.

Further to that, I'm not actually convinced that Nank is fully fit still. Is he really able to cover the ground strongly? Can he really jump for the ball adequately? Is 1 x K, 4 x HBs, 0 x M, 11 x HOs, 2 x Ts adeqaute going into a GF against probably the best ruck/mid in the comp?
Soldo's stats - you virtually double every category. There is no doubt he is currently our No.1 ruck.
Unfortunately, I think Dimma nd the MC will be reluctant to leave Nank out. But there should be no selections based on emotion or sentiment, even loyalty. There is far too much at stake. Same for poor Jack Graham who'll probably have to miss - with Jack Ross a capable replacement if not JG yet. It's just madness to take players into a Granny who are not at least 90% right to go. But the major imperative is to pick a team that will/can win - not one based on those emotional factors.
So, reluctantly, I'd be really thinking about Chol or Balta to play the Pies if we get them. Both need to perform well in the VFL GF. My leaning is towards Balta becuase I feel he offers greater versatility being trustworthy down back as well. However, it's worth remembering that Soldo and Chol really curbed Grundy and limited him to one of his worst performances in the last H&A defeat we inflicted on them.
With some running players out - Graham and Broad ? - I don't want us to play 2 slow rucks in the GF. We need pace and run, tackling power, to match up the Filth's mobile forwards and strong midfield.

(It's a different story if somehow GWS create a miracle; against Mummy no worries, can play both S/N)
