Gourdis a Forward

Stop it Crazy Ways. That's not funny anymore. It's all fun and games until someone drafts a dud.

He was no dud his family had a boat called punt rowed, I heard he also enjoyed getting behind the family lawn mower.

This whole thread is a credit to Miller's skills as an angler.

Gourdis is drafted as a key forward, but soon after Miller suggests he is destined to be our key backman, which neatly gets him out of explaining why we gave up pick 19 for a recycled HBF rather than a young, developing key back and covering the gaping holes in our list. And so we have this earnest debate about this side issue of whether the kid is capable and whether it will work and what past history is there.

Ahh Magoo (Miller) you've done it again, they're so easy to get.
spot on.

Thought we took a young, developing key back with pick 18. If we still had pick 19 (and I bloody wish we had have) we would have taken Selwood. So i don't get where your heading.
what we needed just one. some how i dont think so. the fact they had selwood pencilled in tells me they dont appreciate the need to stock up with kpds with earlyish picks.in saying this i would have been happy with selwood. you know there was a chance collier would be about the place at pick 35 but we gave up any chance of getting him now why was that oh yeah we gave up 35 for another skinny flanker cant have enough of them sorts it seems. also they rated gourdis a second rounder they gave up any chance of getting him also to top it off they took the chance he would last to the psd. ::)

Not disputing anything you have said claw. Its just that its certainly not the case that Miller has stated that Gourdis will be a backmen to cover up for trading pick 19. He can structure his spin better than that!

he didnt say much but indicated that we had been thorough with our screening by inviting so many down to training. said that our main area of weakness was down back (gasp) and that without saying too much he indicated that we'd be bolstering our back line with tomorrow's draft.

Francis Leach pointed out that the average number of games a psd plays is 23, which put a bit of a dampener on proceedings.
Note that this was after drafting Rance and before the PSD.

Thought you knew all this

Think CC alluded to this a week or so ago.

Gave the impression it would be Gourdis and we would try to turn him into a backman.

You are correct. Miller did not state that Gourdis was to cover for pick 19. I did.

Miller said, as quoted above, that we had a weakness down back and would draft a defender, David Gourdis as it turned out. A tall key forward pre-draft.

Gilmour is the reason Miller puts so much emphasis on the lawn mowing these days. He was a good footballer with a few telling off-field issues.

It was a grouse name for a boat, too.

We seem to be outstanding at drafting the Happy Gilmour types lately.
Gilmour, McGrath, Petersen and possibly a couple of similar still on the list.
This is an area that seriously hurts the club. I don't mind if we pick up kids that have a crack but don't make it. But it totally tees me off when kids get that once in a lifetime opportunity and *smile* it up against the wall within five minutes of walking in the door.

Youth is wasted on the young, TM.
Yep and by the time we're experienced enough to handle youth properly we're to flamin old and tired to keep up.

I hope some of the flower sniffers have eased their expectations for this young bloke after his first practice match. Such flower sniffing antics Can only lead to short term disappointment and the sense that the player is failing for not living up to lofty standards set by the Ministry of Sugarcoating.

Time is all he needs.

:hihi

Roger that.

BTW it turns out that Gourdis is a project player. He should play where he's asked.

What the F.
He should play where he's bloody well told and so should the rest of em. Ask the kid nicely if he'd like to get close enough to someone to actually lay a tackle or bump. "Sheesh" Maybe they'd just like to line up nicely and take it in turns to have a kick at goal from the ten yard square then run around doing a macho fist pump.
No wonder Matrix is sponsoring our metro's.

How right you are Massa

He has to prove that he can play AFL football fisrt. then we should worry about where he sould
play. Dont forget 16 clubs past on him in the ND. Lets give it a year first then decide where he plays.
or not...........

Sorry, mate. I didn't put it right. I meant to say he should play where his gold calligraphed invitation requests that he parks his matrixed bottom hairs.

I'm a litle bit lost with the direction of this thread!

Maybe we should reserve these comment for when (If Ever) he does complain about where he's played! I heard him interviewed straight after he was picked up by us, and he was wrapped and DID make the comment he'd be happy to play anywhere!

At the moment this thread seems to be rolling on like a Chinese Whisper thats growing into a full on rave party!
