Graham Polak-accident/ injury reports and get well wishes

i think its great he achieves full quality of life. but as a footballer hes ordinary.i keep saying we have to do better than the polaks schulzs pattisons and hughes of this world.

Exactly right. I hope he makes a full recovery simply because what happened to him was a tradegy, but not because I rate him as any more than a very ordinary footballer.

And for those jumping up and down on the claw bear in mind you can't have it both ways. Benny_furs well wishing to which the claw replied included this remark, "The thought of seeing him running out there and taking big grabs again is very inspiring." Now whilst Benny_furs was 100 percent entitled to say that it is however pretty well mixing what Mac suggested should be kept apart ie well wishes and football analysis. Unfortunately with Polak you don't just get 'big grabs' you get the complete package and it's nothing to write home about as claw had every right to point out. Again you just can't have it both ways...

Who wants it both ways Tyg ? people were hoping this thread could remain relatively free of "delist the dud" type comments and just concentrate on his well being. The only people to want to both ways are those that have tried to turn this thread into a dud thread. There are plenty of other dud threads out there where these comments have been heard over and over again. Why not keep this thread a feel good one ? Or is that simply impossible for some people ?

Then leave football out of it. No talking about how great it would be to see him taking big marks for Richmond etc when so many consider him a dud. Stick just to his health and let the rest take of itself (whether he plays for Richmond or not). Again don't have an issue with the Benny_furs post, just saying when you mention Polak on the park Claw was more than entitled to respond the way he did. That's all.

Delist i just can not see him playing again.
If i am wrong i wil be happy for him but we only have so many places on our list and someone has to go.

Agree but hopefully the AFL will do the right thing and let us rookie him like they did with the Bombers and Ramanauskas. Unfortunately, shouldn't be on our senior AFL list if he is unlikely to play next year.

i dont know how new this is but have heard he is physically well but seems to still be struggling with his short term memory a possibly temporary issue, and i think it is good if we keep him on! sends a good message to the other players and ones who may be drafted in the future!

hope for all comcened he heals up well!

Its interesting to my way of thinking he is a much better footballer than Jason McCartney ever was. So if he could over come this adversity as JMc did, he may well have a profile bigger than JMc and be able to be very productive.

While I like the idea of him being on the list for another year - I must admit to not knowing why we couldn't have sought special dispensation and rookied him but paid him his contract rate. To my mind this special rookieing thing has a lot going for it from a human interest/compassion perspective and is something I would like to see the AFL getting used to approving.

Can't have it both ways?!

I said it would be inspiring to see him out there again - I didn't critique his footballing ability at all, not positively or negatively.

If he runs out there again the whole team will be bursting with pride, courage and comraderie.

From a list management point of view I'd keep Graham on the list purely for the chance that his comeback could spark an inspirational boost in confidence and form for everyone at the club.

I'm not talking about his football ability, his presence alone will give everyone a massive boost. Just training alongside someone who is battling against the odds to overcome a life-threatening injury in a desperate attempt to play for our club again is an emotional thing for all his teammates.

So I can see the merits of keeping him on our list from a business point of view as well as an emotional point of view.
