Grand Final Thread

Seems Bomber could have looked at the way Tiges and Demons played the Hawks. The geelong game is not suited to the Hawk zone and it showed.

The Hawk zone is vulnerable to teams that are prepared to be patient at half back before running the ball through a gap in the zone at half back and kicking long into the inevitable space in the forward line.

This years Geelong sets up a flood between centre and half forward and try to ram through short kicks to pinpoint a forward. The Hawk zone justs pulls back in response and you end up with 30 players inside 50 of which 5 seemed to be called Hodge. And personaly I thought Abletts game was symptomatic of Geelong, when the game was crying out for long kicks he started with 13 handballs and 2 kicks and ended with 34 posessions but only 12 kicks. Of these twelve kicks most were just 15m.

Bomber's response? Put it this way, he's not likely to go dancing with the stars cos he's got no moves!!

Just watched the full replay (sober) and have a few thoughts.

- Thought Hodge deserved the Norm Smith, but Dew was also sensational! his 3rd quarter set up the win for sure.
- They say that you need a solid Key Forward during finals footy. It showed. Mooney is highly overrated and Lonergan is quiet a bit off it. Hawkins will come good and Lonergans spot will look very sketchy.
- Clinton Young was BOG in the first half before getting injured. Found space so easily and used the ball great.
- Stokes & Varcoe were TERRIBLE! Injured or not they were just not up to it.

I am so happy that the Hawks won it instead of Geelong

Agree. When you see guys like Ladson, Young, Renouf, Gilham, Osborne, Williams etc with medals around their neck, it should give everyone hope.

Certain people on here name players saying so-and-so will never play in premiership team for us so get rid of them. You've just mentioned around a quarter of the Hawks premiership side. Just goes to show it takes all kinds to make up a top "team". ;)
