We've got the annual girls footy weekend coming up - the Tiges v Bummers game on the 24 May. We're staying very close to the G and we're hoping to imbibe in some fine quality food and bevvies before the game. Can anyone suggest a good eatery, pub or bar close to the G? We dont live in Victoria so not up to speed with places around the G. We usually go to Steph Alexanders, but want to try something different.

Is the London a good place to eat? If so, what is the address.

Thanks in anticipation of all the advice from you wonderful PREnders.

Go Toigs!

Go to The Royal on Punt Rd. If the girls are ambitious they might end up making a dollar or two! ;D

i went there once with Michael and i havent seen him since! :rofl

The All Nations is a pub with great food (also on Lennox St but up over the hill - between Highett and Victoria, opposite the housing commission towers ).

Otherwise, Bridge Rd has a choice of Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Burmese, Nepaelse, Timorese, Argentian, Indonesia, Lebanese, Turkish, Greek, Italian, Hippy, Eastern Europeanj - my favourite is Burmese House (near the town hall), Djarkara (further up the road near Coppin St) and Krua Thai II (near punt rd - closest to the 'g). All cheap and good. If you're a meat eater (and you're not suffering from any heart conditions) -- try Vlado's grill where the parsley garnish is as close to a vegetable as you will get.

Thae All Nations also has a shuttle bus that goes to the "G" befoer and after the game.. Also "The Precinct" in Swan st is worth a look--Luke Darcy's pub---has had a complete facelift-------good atmosphere and beer garden of sorts

Thanks to all PREnders who have so far contributed (except for that naughty remark by Hopper - what kind of 'girls' do you think we are ? On second thoughts, don't answer that >:D). Would still like to find out a bit more about the London. Is the food at All Nations good? We're happy to spend some $ for quality nosh and bevvies somewhere within walking distance of the G so keep those suggestions coming.

Try Il Duca Restaurant at 132 Wellington Parade http://www.foodgod.com.au/1203

Great Italian Restaurant, let them know you are going to the footy when you book and when you get there.

I think the food at the London is OK...nothing amazing, but a good atmosphere and a fair feed

Warning: just because JB03 likes frozen pasta, doesnt mean that you will.

Thanks Bairdy. I think I'll leave Dangler's suggestion alone and a few others as well. My request was made in innocence and look where you guttersnipes took it. tsk tsk ::) And thanks to jb03 and Redford ....a partnership made in heaven, the Kath and Kim of PRE.

If you usually got to Stephanies or whatever, GoT, maybe you have a thing for guts. And eyes and hooves or whatever else she's braise/pickling.

If that's the case there is really nowhere else you can go for flambe truffle and testicle under goat toenail served with quince jus.

But if it's food you want why don't you go to Kunis? Food's good. And you don't mind paying. Then go to the footy and after that head off to get a couple of martinis at the Gin Palace, from there to the <gig to be chosen> and then to the Supper Club.

Anyways that lot is in the east end of town. And pretty safe for a group of sheilas. You can do the lot on foot.

That's all I got in the way of reasonably mainstream. (file:somewhatmonied/chick30something.doc) It's not exactly tailored, I'm sorry.

But I have a bohemian itinerary if you prefer. Or the much loved bogan extravaganza but that can be tough in a strange town what with the need for bail and transfusions and what have you.

Thanks Dyer'ere, and I'm flattered you think I'm in the chick30something/cashedup category...I'm actually in the chook50something/reasonableearningpower/singlenotaworkingfamilylabormantra category. I'm not into offal meself but do think Steph's chefs knock up a damn fine winter warming lamb stew or like and washed down with a fine merlot. Mmmm mmmm. What better way to warm one's pre-game cockles ;D!

I'll check out the links you and jb03 provided and us lovely ladies will plot our pre-game gourmandising.

Thanks to most of you for your suggestions. You know who you are :-*

The Kingston Hotel on Highett St is worth a try. It's about 200m east of West Richmond station. Don't be fooled by it's small street frontage, it's pretty big inside. Good selection of food at pub prices; and very well presented. Have a few extra ale's to oil the tonsils, you'll be doing plenty of cheering that night.
