The Knob along with Patto provided great backup for Simmo.
I think this may spell the end for Staff.

I actually think Knobel is a better ruckman than Simmonds, but Simmonds has done very well in the role and when he's playing well provides a better option in field play away from the bounces.

Knobel was very good in his limited game time today - great return first up.

As his pres I was really happy to see him back in the side. I think he'll offer us a bit more over the course of the year, and I too think him and Patto offer us more than having Staff up forward.

Knobel was great in our first 10 games last year, and I think he can be a positive influence for us from now on.

Go big Knob!e

Knobel did quite well in the ruck, but 1 possession around the grounds just isn't going to cut it. It is his first game back so need to give him the benefit of the doubt, but Patto looks like the long-term backup ruck to me.

Simmonds just absolutely killed the opposition today, especially in the first half. 25 possessions, 13 marks, 9 hitouts, 3 tackles and 2 goals. These are the sort of ruckmen you need in the modern day.

Cheers

We have come along way since the days of Stafford & Marsh doing the ruck duties.
Wallace visited Simmonds over the summer and asked him to clean out the drawers he was filling up with G-Strings - "It would'nt be a good look Troy...now that you're going to shed some weight".
Knobel's return to footy has been steady. His return to form at Coburg and now an inclusion into the Richmond side, gives the Tigers the extra strength and "Simmo" relief from the ruck duties.
Simmo caught the Crows by surprise today - His work around the ground was exceptional.

When TW took over at Richmond, we opted for Simmonds & Knobel - Simmonds was sought after (strongly) by Carlton & St Kilda, whilst the Saints were comfortable to part with Knobel.

Interesting to note, Deledio spending more time around the middle, with a player like Knobel in the side. I'm confident, you'll see Coughlan get his hands on the footy more, with the "Knob" tapping it around. ;)

Yep great in the ruck but still hasn't got a clue how to read the play around the ground. Call me old fashioned but I still like my ruckman to take marks and have an impact in general play. Purely a tempoary transitional player until Patto, Graham (or some yet to be drafted kid) makes his mark.
