Can't help but feel that Greg and Terry are already hard at work on next years list. As they should be..
1 Chaffey and Stafford have already announced their retirements and the possibility that Gas and Kell will be moved on has also apparently been leaked.
2 Rayzers position on the list next year has been publicly assured and Greg has also been quoted on the recruitment of an experienced kpp back.
3 Greg and even March? have apparently already spoken to Akermanis.
4 There has also been talk about young Wood coming from Brisbane to Punt Road.
5 Most interesting was the comment made by Greg some 2 years ago that we were likely to go after a very well known Melb based player at the end of his current contract which ends this season.
The key back could only be Polak. He needs a new start and Freo want him out. Are there substance problems?
Other possibilities are Miller and Michael, but I can't see us trading a 'suitable' player to Melb and it won't be Michael b/c he would look like a hypocrite if he left Brisbane to come south, rather than to return to PNG.
We only paid 92.5% of the TPP this year and even that figure is misleading because more than half of one of Gas or Richo's salary, I think Gas's, was counted as part of the TPP because otherwise we would have been paying less than the min allowed. Add to this the certain retirements of Chaffey and Staff, say $500,000. plus the possible departures of Kell and Gas say another $750,000. And add on the % inc in the TPP following the new TV deal and it follows that we have lots of cash which HAS to be committed to existing as well as soon to be signed contracts.
My guess is that in these cicumstances, we will seek to trade Gas for Polak and Kellaway for Akermanis and that we will be seeing both Aker and Polak in our colours in Nov.
