Wouldn't make too much of Griffen's comments. The disturbing thing to learn was the arguing going on between the Richmond players. This game was one of the lowest points in our history.

Mentally fragile duds with no heart, the common thread continues. New season same old efforts, which for mine is comical as opposed to distressing, the club has brought it on themselves appointing mentally weak so called senior players to leadership roles ie Bowden Richson, as well as retaining hacks, cats and squibs whilst squandering draft picks and then drafting the wrong players to the club.

Just a case of tail chasing for mine that has been going on for 15 years and that will continue until the duds are gone pure and simple.

Terry its either you or them mate, they will kill you and yyour coaching aspirations unless you get rid of them first.

The thing you should be angry about is that he was right.  Who cares how long he has been in the system, there is not 115 points differnce in ability between these two teams, WE GAVE UP.  Good on the kid for being honest, there are too many robots in footy these days.  That is not a sledge, it is an an honest appraisal of what occured.

If our players need a comment from an 18 year old kid to fire them up then we are in big trouble.

100% right Goose step.

An honest appraisal is right,we gave up.

I actually saw one of the arguments between players that's been mentioned. It was just downright pathetic and indicative of just how low we still TRULY are as a club.

It was the 3rd quarter and the Dogs had moved the ball up onto the left side of the ground (relative to the North end they were kicking to). Can’t remember who had the ball for the Dogs, but basically they had marked it about 55m out 10m inside the boundary. Robert Murphy (from memory) was running into the forward line for a pass over the top. Raines could not keep up with him (too slow). He yelled out to Kellaway (I think it was) to pick him up coming through. Kellaway had no idea, and wanted to run into a different spot to fill up space. Meanwhile, Murphy just runs into open space 30m out, straight in front of goal with no man on him at all, gets the pass over the top, marks it, and slots the ball through from a set shot 30m out. Raines went off his brain at Kellaway asking why he didn’t want to run to pick Murphy up. Kellaway’s arms pointed this way and that in response and the two just turned around shaking their lowly heads as the ball went back to the centre for another bounce.

Apart from Raines, I may have one or two of the player names wrong, but that is exactly what happened never the less.

How ^&^$@ pathetic is that ? Schoolboy stuff.

As far as I'm concerned the "group" behaviour of our team reflects the underlying values that our club instils in them.

Individual players will exhibit varying levels of courage, composure etc. according to their own character traits, but the overall behaviour (whether winning or losing) reflects what a particular club stands for.

Other AFL clubs seem to know exactly how we will behave as a group under certain conditions, and unless people at Richmond understand that the basic fundamentals have to be set in place then it is difficult to see much substantial change to the last 20 years.

Look at teams like North Melbourne and ask yourself if they have fundamental values of honesty in how they perceive themselves and what they commit themselves to (as a club) in preparing to play AFL football, then look at other teams around the competition.

Some clubs understand how little decisions (which seemingly don't have "that much" negative effect) can accumulate and continually erode any sense of a club's true commitment to success, some obviously don't.

Ask yourself what sort of "message" as far as reward for proven and consistent effort (not "potential") is sent when a still unproven fringe player is signed to a new contract before the season has commenced? (and this is nothing personal on Schulz, it is just another recent example of something our club does that seemed staggeringly unnecessary to me).

We are what we are because of what we do, really, why is anyone surprised things like Friday occur?

Totally agree David. In fact, over the weekend, I was comparing North to Richmond constantly and the differences that exist between them. They’re level of commitment – despite the disadvantages they have to overcome as a club i.e. finances, facilities, poor membership etc. – put Richmond to shame.

Culture starts from the top down……

This is exactly why when the ladies who attended the recent Tiger Lilies function complained that David King spent too much time talking about North Melbourne I defended him and said he had a point. Even David Bourke has commented on this!

Good on him for saying it I liek a little arrogance and if it was the truth which the result seems to indicate, then good on him. Hopefully we learn from it.

Why not... it worked for Andre Agassi :idea

I must be the odd one out here. I think Griffen is an idiot for saying what he said and I don't think he was particularly brave either. Apart from the fact that it's very easy to take pot shots at a team who's just gone down by 115 points, if he's so damn brave then why doesn't he quote someone on something!? "Fighting amongst ourselves" could be as simple as a senior player telling someone else to pick up their man. Griffen should come out and say "this bloke said this to that bloke" or shut the f*ck up!  >:(

Totally agree, and what poor sportsmanship. It's like they rub our faces in the sand when we are down. It's NOT OK, but I hope that we can improve (its not out of the question) and we can return the favour.

A second year player can assess the mindset and application of a club that an over paid coaching staff have failed to perceive. Smart Kid.
Raines, a young player, demanding commitment from a senior player and receiving nothing, a sorry state of affairs.
Griffen stopped short of saying we were sh****g ourselves so our Captain fills in the gaps and accuses us of being fickle.
The cost of my membership entitles me to an opinion, Johnsons' salary and Captaincy demands performance. Direction like this from the leader of the club doesn't do much to instil our up and comers with pride in the jumper and a desire to bleed for the club.

How many of you guys have played in games where you have pumped the opposition or have been pumped by the opposition. I know I have been in both camps. When you arer the "pumper" it's great to hear your opponents run around yelling at their team mates etc. When the boot is on the other foot it's not so nice. I have been in both sides of the equation.
I know that once we got into the rooms following a "thumping" we did not have any recriminations with our teammates only a steely resolve to make sure that the same thing did not happen the following weeks, fortunately we came out the following week & handed out a fearful walloping to the opposition.
The most important thing is the way the Tigers respond this coming week & in the future.
If they go back into their shells & say it's all too hard then we have a huge job in front of us & we can expect a long dry spell {as if 25 years isn't long enough}. Hopefully we will respond appropriately & give the saints a run for their money.
