Half way mark report card

Mostly well covered. Exceeded my expectations.

THe most pleasing aspect is that we are no longer the laughing stock of the AFL after having that title for so long. Well done TW and co (and thank you Carlton and Essendon).

i've maintained that i dont care how we go this year as long as we improve toward the end of the season and head into the off season on a high. Also Havce the young kids come on.

Now at the halfway mark we are already witnessing this transformation so all i'd like to see now is that we continue to improve. simple.

We've done much better than expected, considering the opening round disaster. Since the Crows match our kicking skills seem to have improved dramatically, to an extent I really didn't think was possible with this bunch of du....err....players. We don't have the experience or muscle to really make a finals impact, but it'd be nice to make it. Not concerned about where we finish in relation to draft picks at all ...anymore... :hihi We now have a nice array of temptations for other clubs to hand over high draft picks for in the future should the need arise. I'm confident that the recruiting staff now have half a brain between them. I expect 4 or five new players this year just as talented as those we have drafted over the past 2 seasons. Pettifer.....unbelievable bonus. Who would have predicted this turn around!? Simmonds...a tower....playing superb footy. Brown and Richo together again for the second half of the season will worry most clubs. We are not flag contenders yet, but boy have we come a long way since Round 22 2004. Thanks Tezza, Kingy, Choco and all support staff and most players :hihi ....yeah, nah, ALL players.....Richmond is becoming a club to be proud of again. Go you Mighty Tiges.

Great thread
Like eveyone else, the step up from the young guns Delidio,Foley,Raines,Polo,Meyer and Pattison[ Not that Pattison has set the world on fire or anything but his comment about the fab 5 shows that his attitude is pointed in the right direction] combined with the more experienced players Cogs, Tuck, Richo, Chubba,Simmo,B1 & B2 Newman Pettifer playing close to there best each week has been a dream come true.

One of the other posters mentioned Terry Wallace as the best coach we've had in 26 years l'd say the best since Tommy Hafey

very good, but we are really playing as well as we can. This year is really not a finals year, short of extreme luck, mainly due to the draw, but really, we don't have the team yet for a finals campaign.

The real news is that we have drafted well, and that once these players hit 23-26 years old, they will be a strong force.

Well done also to Brian Royal for lifting our skill level. It can't have been easy.

one more thing.....anyone notice the rise and rise of N.Foley? here he comes!

first of all, RFC has way exceded my expectations, and the expectations of most supporters. i would have taken 4 wins after 11 rounds, but we have 6 and should have had 7 if it wasn't for the maggots who used to wear white.

i have given us a A-. we don't deserve an A+ simply because of 2 100+ losses.

tw deserves congratulations for changing our fortunes in 18 months. when was the last time we have seen a richmond team with that can change their tempo at the flick of a switch? not in my lifetime!

the best part of all is that i don't believe we haven't peaked yet this year. i am of the belief that tw deliberately delayed preparation as we've have peaked too early in previous seasons... our best performances lay ahead.

one thing though... i refuse to mention the "F" word. i'm taking it one week at a time ;D

haha no F words hey Ian4!?

Brisbane in 1998 = Wooden Spoon
Brisbane in 2000 = after 11 were 5wins 6 losses...went on and won 12 matches and made semi final

Richmond in 2004 = Wooden Spoon
Richmond in 2006 = after 11 were 6wins 5 losses...went on and won.......................

You fill in the blanks Ian! ;D ;)

Given that A+ is aperfect mark:

The Class is marked UP for,  1. Winning more games than losing  2.  Beating top 8 sides    3. Winning/competitive interstate  4. Blooding/adding expereince to so many young players   4. Adaptive playing styles executed well   5. Good level of fitness & improving skills

Class has been  marked  DOWN for  1. 2 x 100pt losses  2.  2 x Games it could have one (St.Kilda & Freo) and 3. For winning only 1 final quarter all season.

OVERALL:
B+  Better than anyone but the most optimistic expected; and signs of 'core' improvements (not passing ones).  Some work to do in the second half to consolidate the good work of the first 3 months.  Having set a standard  the class wont  get marked up for winning games it 'ought' to win:
and will need to bury the traditional "second half of the season fade out".

The question is: Can the class and its teacher wring another 15% improvement out of itself over the next 3 months?

Asusual like your thinking 8.

thanks ToO as do i of your opinions!  :)

I am just one who believes you dont have to continually keep bottoming out to become a successful team. Our core senior group of:

Johnson - two time premiership player
Brown - dual AA
Bowden - b2b best and fairest winner and AA
Richo - 10 time leading club goal kicker and dual AA

.. is as good as they get in terms of ability and passion for the club - 3 of them being Tiger supporter all their lives!

With the improvement of 3-5yr players:
Newman
Pettifer
Coughlan
TucK (?)
P.Bowden
Hyde
Simmonds

and with a lot of kids... really talented kids:
Deledio
Meyer
Tambling
Patto
Polo
Schulz
Foley
White
Raines
JON
Jacko
Hartigan
Thurstfield
Hughes

Why cant we be successful? I agree i think we need another couple of really good kids and a some KPB's but i think people overate this bottoming out rubbish. Being able to mix the young with the old is really important in getting a successful mix of players - they feed off eachother.

I draw comparisons to the Lion because they were one team who won the spoon ONCE and went on 3 yrs later to win 3 consecutive flags. The year after their spoon they made a prelim final!
The draft after their spoon resulted in them getting Headland, C.Bolton, Shattock, Heuskes, MiKinnon - hardly inspiring. Saints got early picks for a few years in a row and yeah they have an outstanding bunch of players but have 0 flags to back it up....(currently)

I believe that footy is played the majority above the shoulders.....confidence builds players not weights and skinfolds....Im not saying we are going to win the flag this year or next, but i believe that with our list and a group of really talented youngsters this outfit is better than what a lot of people think.....i for one didnt think the bombers would be premiers in '93 or that Sydney would win the 2005 flag....footy is a really funny thing....anything can happen and i have an open mind to it all.

Having a coach capable of turning a game himself is also a major asset....Wallace is a tactical genious........The Hawks have a stack of first round picks but they have an unproven coach .....its a lot like the lions having Mathews and the saints having Thomas!
