Please can we kick the ball a bit more think if we kicked more than handball we would be a much better side how many times can we handball ourselves into trouble must back our players to take a mark rather than handball to someone standing still with someone up their clacker!!

There was plenty of pressure in last nights game too. But Geelong only had 166 and North 156 handballs. And on a tighter ground too.

Contrast that with the 189 or whatever we had today with over a hundred in the first half and is it any wonder we got flogged.

Agreed. The always seem to be handballing to stationary targets.
As much as I hate the fact we do this, it also *smile* me no end that these guys are stationary in the bloody first place!

We overdo the handball & go too wide & basically play zig zag football.Good sides will carve us up.

Adelaide's pressure had something to do with it too.

Don't agree what happens is we get the ball & rather than take a few steps & kick it we keep running end up running into the contests & handball it off. Why not get the footy run & kick long then the pressure would be on the Crows Deledio is a good kick Newman Brown Cotchin get the ball to them & tell them to kick long. Handball is fine in contested situations a couple of kick handballs to get the ball out & find space then kick the bloody thing.

Handballing is ok but has to be backed up with the shepherd. That's the difference between us and Geelong.

Great post. It's a habit of ours that sh!ts me no end.

Handballing is also fine if you are moving forward.

Our worst handball offenders are King, Pattison & Tuck IMO.

I remember that Geelong was renowned for over possessing the ball right up until early last year.

It seems to be a phase young, developing teams go through.

Its worrying, especially Deledio. Hes gotten more kicks than handballs only once in game this year. His kick to handball ratio is about 2:3. For someone with such a deadly kick, I dont know whats going on.

I think that because we see so often that the first handball is a bad one (ie to someone stationary or under the hammer) it leads to a chain of handballs to get out of the trouble the first handball caused. Then the whole passage of play has degenerated into a handball frenzy by players under pressure.

Rather than being used to create run, I reckon the majorityof our handballs are to get out (or try to get out) of trouble that a prior handball has caused!

It has been a feature of many of our games this year and IMO is something we need to sort out ASAP.

i thought that football was the Name of our great game not handball. kick the bloody thing and have some faith in our fowards taking a mark and if they dont mark it let our small fowards crum it.

I'd normally agree P72, but we haven't taught anyone how to crumb for years. That's next years lesson.
