PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Puntroadend.com website was launched to an unsuspecting public in October 2001 after many trial efforts and wearing out a FrontPage for Dummies manual. We might not have all the bells and whistles of some sites but we have a wonderful heart and soul. The members of a site and their input are what makes a site and it’s no coincidence that we have up to a thousand people a day checking our site out. Well done all.

There is always room for improvement though and I thought while we’re sitting around the table eating birthday cake we could discuss ways to make PRE a better site and maybe mention some positives and negatives.

In my opinion our good far outweighs our bad. In our short existence PRE has raised around $40,000 for the RFC. We initiated Player Sponsorships on here and other sites have since followed suit which makes more $$ for the club. We initiated the Rookie Club, which the RFC now runs to raise funds towards filling our rookie list.

There are also indirect ways we raise money for the club too. A lot of people buy their first membership due to the passion for the club on PRE. There are also side benefits like PREnders encouraging others to join coterie groups and attend functions etc.

The RFC use PRE for feedback and as one person near the top of the administrative tree said to me they value that because we mightn’t always say what they want to hear but at least they know what a significant cross section of their supporters thinking.

The negatives are few but very concerning. As well as the RFC players and their families read PRE and I cringe to think how they feel sometimes. I think we should all make a concerted effort to discuss the club we love without having to resort to personal insults and abuse. I’m sure most wouldn’t walk up to a player and question his parentage or mental development and I really don’t think that should be done behind the anonymity of a keyboard either. They are at our club to play football and it’s their football that should be discussed in a civil manner.

Feel free to mention anything you like about our site and equally so anything you think we can do to make it even better.

Happy 6th birthday to everyone who has helped make PRE the wonderful community it is.
