Hard call list management

Not sure why we would want to trade foley. Sure, he's not Gablett - but if a pick 20 in this years draft turned out as good as Foley would you be happy? If so, then what's the point of trading Foley for someone who might turn out as good as Foley? Or is it more about structure- trading a reasonably good midfielder for a youngster who will develop into big, strong KPP (which makes more sense to me)

My trade bait players would be, Tuck, Edwards, Moore, Pattison, JON, Shulz, McMahon, Thursfield and Raines.

Delist/retire, Bowden, Brown, Simmonds, Johnson, King, Pettifer and Polak. If not traded delist JON, Shulz, Pattison. Depending on trades Bowden might get 1 more year.

Rookies Gone, Silvester not sure on Gilligan.

Not really hard call.

Under pressure to perform next season will be Cogs, Thomson, Hislop, Hughes and Gourdis.

Tough Calls huh... please don't attack me for any of these, I don't mind these players being at the tigers and don't think all of these should happen, maybe just one or two. But these are the tough calls on our list, cutting the duds and retiring the oldies aren't really tough calls at all.

- Trade Foley, one year from gaining media attention his form has dropped off a bit. If we could get a 2nd rounder for him it would be a win. High 3rd is a draw.

- Trade Tuck, swap for a young but so far disappointing despite potential KPP or mid or 3rd rounder would be fair

- Delist Coughlan, I have serious man crush for Coggers, but to this stage of the season has to be considered

- Trade Kel Moore, would only get us a low 3rd maybe 4th rounder

Trade Kel Moore? 3-4th rounder
HAHA

My trade bait players would be, Foley, Tuck, Pattison, JON, McMahon, Pettifer and Raines - get whatever we can

Delist/retire, Richo, Bowden, Brown, Simmonds, Johnson, and Polak.

would think at least 10 gone and add Brown and Nahas to the list which still leaves 8 picks which i probably too many

I wasn't saying you trade all four of the players I mentioned only one or two. Therfore you clear space to see if Thomson or Hislop is the answer next year, rather than see the same extraction crew get another year older.

And yes I would look at trading Moore as we will have Rance, Thursty, Post and McGuane to fit in as tall backs as well and he would have value where McGuane would not. We will hopefully also draft one to two more KP prospects this year as well.

i wonder how desperate the new team will be for experienced players? would they have more value next trade period?

Not sure how many of these can really be described as hard calls but ...

- give richo his farewell game in round 21 on the basis that we need to provide opportunities for our young talls next year
- keep schulz (only if he shows something in the next 11 weeks)
- midfields - attempt to trade 1 of coughlan or tuck for 3rd round pick only (unlikely of course)

I would have thought you only trade that you have too many of:

Inside mids: Tuck, Cogs(preferably) or Jackson replace with Thompson.

Medium backs: McGuane for me I like Moore better even though McGuane has had a better season - best time to trade. Replace with Rance or Post.

Rucks: Pattison (should have tried last season) or Simmonds (Rucks retain their value) Replace with Vickery or Ranga Brown.

Average flankers: Jordy - well, we paid Pick 19 for him who knows, Raines, Pettifer (OK I'm grasping at straws). Any number of replacements.

Tall Forwards who cant play: Schulz ( is he still worth 28?)

Retain: Hughes - dunno why but I think he has talent. Can all the 30+s barring Cuz. I would hope to trade at least two of these at the end of the season.

We could get 2nd rounders for guys like Jackson, Raines, McGuane and maybe Patto

talk of trading guys like moore and foley for 3rd and 4th rounders is *smile* talk. both would easily command a late first rounder. i like the idea from many to keep schulz but keeping him and telling richo he is not required doesn't sit right

1. trade pattison. maybe a 2nd rounder

2. keep hughes. too much talent. a new coach is his last chance. 1 year contract low base. if he doesn't like it shop him. he'll like it though even if he is a head case

I haven't honestly seen anything which would indicate any reason to keep Schulz. As for "take a chance" the guy has been living on hope for more years now than I can count. Trade/Delist. Saw more in Pattison than Schulz.

Going through the list alphabetically:

First Tranche (ret/delist/trade):
Bowden, Brown, Hughes, Johnson, King (contracted, don't care cull anyway), Pettifer, Polak, Schulz, Simmons, Sylvester (Rookie),

Second Tranche (if we need more):
McMahon, JON, Raines, Cogs (jury still out, but...), White, Edwards

Elevate the other three rookies on minimum contracts and get in a fresh batch.

what a laugh hard call. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl most ferals procrastinate over the many out and out duds how the hell could they make a decision on so called 50/50 players.
how about we just get the basics right for starters.

if i was at another club and was offered up the majority of players on our list for trade i would laugh at the lot of you.

TRADE:

Nathan Foley- I think Nathan is definitely tradeable and in the market may net us an early type of pick. I think in this position we are in, if we are able to net say pick 3, pick 17 and pick 19 plus getting a pick 15 - 20 for Nathan could be worth it's wait in Gold. Suddenly 4 picks inside 20 along with our already young list gives us a solid future to build on. That is of course another club wants to give us an early pick for him.

TAKE A CHANCE:

Jay Schulz - This big guy has not been used well. Forward, Back, Wing, Bench he has been there and done that. Shockingly David King said right up till round one, he wanted Jay off half back, whilst Brian Royal fought and won to have him play Full Forward....he then started the game in round one on the bench, came on to Full Forward, then as damage limitation went back....I see him every week for Coburg and he is a talented albeit lazy forward. The right coach can make this guy into a 50 goal a year forward. Also I doubt another team would come knocking again for a pick 28.....a pick after 50 for mine, I would like to take the risk on a 23 year old tall forward.
Agree with your thoughts on both. Also if we could secure a late first rounder for Thursefield he might be on his way also.

Pretty well agree Claw. In all honesty, not much point speculating now- need to wait and see what (if any) approaches we receive after the season finishes, and consider offers for ANY player on the list. Not too many must keeps for me, but certainly retain Deledio, Cotchin, and probably Tambling who is just starting to show good signs.

we have 11 rounds left before any so called hard calls are made. we need to take our time and be intelligent here. i think it is to early to make some of these calls.

i'm not talking about those with their papers stamped. we basically know who these are, Johnson, Pettifer, King etc. i don't need to go on.

my example is a player like Thomson. people are saying get rid of one of Tuck, Cogs or Foley and replace with Thomson.

this guy hasn't played a game for the RFC yet. what a punt we would be taking. i feel this guy needs to play 6-7 games (at least) in the middle for the seniors to be given the opportunity and to see what he has to offer. playing at Coburg for the rest of the year is useless and basically punts on a gut feel rather than a decision based on performance.

there are other players who fit into this category. Hislop, Connors, Cleve, JON (even though i think he's gone), to name a few.

we need to give opportunities in the last 11 rounds and make performance based decisions.

i want to make as little 50/50 decisions as possible. lets be sure of the decisions we make.

the next 11 rounds is extremely important for list management. with Wallace gone and Rawlings as caretaker we have a real opportunity to make some of these so called hard decisions much easier.

Was reading through the posts thinking surely no-one else would pick the 2 I'm thinking of and here they are. Foley is a quality player and would attract a reasonable trade but due to our less than impressive midfield is copping a quality tagger each week making him of lesser value to us than he would at a club with a stronger group around him attracting those taggers. It could be a good win-win although I'd be just as happy to keep him. Schulz is a big bloke. Surely worth another voice in his ear to see if they can develop him. Big blokes are harder to replace than little blokes, especially with the draft concessions coming to the 2 new teams.
