I have long had a theory that successful team need approximately 5 hard core physical players. These are guys who initiate fear in the opposition. If we look at teams who have had premiership success they all had a number of tough players.
Essendon (1999-2001) - Hardwick, Wallis, Long, Barnard, Johnson
Brisbane (2001-2004) - Voss, Scott x 2, Brown, Charman, Keating, Lynch, Pike
Port (2002-2004) - Tredrea, Pickett, Hardwick, Carr, Brogan
I'm not sure I see many players at Tigerland who scare the opposition and invite comments from others as to who may have an 'edge' on our list.
Is it something we should target when drafting? Do you think it could be developed into a Coughlan or Schulz?
