maybe im being a bit harsh, as both Kellaways and gaspar were good for our club....

but hey, McGuane and Thursfield remind me of them...

THEY CANT KICK......woefull kicking out of defence

does anyone else see this????

Lazy workers up the field was the problem. When you have no options you end up kicking under pressure which always results in turnovers.

They're both generally reliable if given time to weigh up their options. Under pressure, McGuane in particular is suspect.

disagree with the 1st sentence, thursty amd mcguane are ordinary at all times when kicking, thursty - see him kick it on the full when he had to kick it 45metres to our player on the wing in the 2nd quarter and then geelong take it back and kick a goal from our mistake. Its not good enough that we keep getting players in our back half who dont think quick enough and deliver the ball well, with or without pressure.

Geelong worked hard at drying up the options as we emerged from defence, and the Thursfield error stood out because it cost a goal. Even so, I reckon if you picked a match replay to watch at random, you wouldn't see him making many kicking errors.

kicking well over distance is something they both really struggle with, it isnt the 30m chips across the backline that is the problem because that is simple, its when they hav to pinpoint a pass down the boundry or kick it to the advantage of our player to mark from 40+ metres away. when they hav to kock the ball hard and long, it goes high and it wobbles and is easily spoiled by the opposition. when they hav too kick it to a leading player and its 1 on 2 they dont hit there man.

The major issue I have with Thursty is that when he gets the ball in defensive 50 his first reaction is to look to move the ball on sideways instead of searching for options straight up the ground. For mine this shows a lack of confidence in his kicking ability. Am I the only one who sees this, or am I imagining it?

McGuane I believe is generally a poor user of the football.

Most AFL footballers are. Its when the pressure is on that the skilful players stand out.....and we have many more than just Thursty and McGuane who struggle to execute under pressure.

Thursty, Moore and McGuane perform pretty well. Last night was a pretty tough night for three defenders who have played less than 110 games between the three of them in a forward line that contains Mooney, Johnson, Ottens, Lonergan, etc.
Three different styles of defenders who give coaches flexibility.
There's lots of upside with these three

No one could be as bad as Kellaway and Gaspar!!!
The biggest insult you could give to these players, worst than calling them girls, pansies or soft!!!!

I think it is a coaching issue, he is probably told to do it, they all do it.

The biggest issue at the RFC isn't the players, its Wallace.

Actually, there was one connection I made regarding the topic and that it was common on a weekly occurence that both Kellaway & Gaspar would play on forwards that were taller and stronger.

When I looked at Thursfield matched up on the taller Lonergan, Moore matched on the much taller & stronger Mooney and, also, McGuane minding the giant Ottens, I could see a connection with this thread topic.

Conversely, at the other end, Scarlett. Harley, Milburn and others easily matched & outbodied their opponents. Only poor first year player Harry Taylor drew the short straw when he was placed on Richo later in the game.

Considering how well that ball was being delivered into the Geelong forward line, and the defensive pressure exerted by their forwards against the Tiger defense, Thursty, McGuane, Moore and the others did very well.

As said, alot of positives from last night coming against a Triple A Grade opposition.
Not many sides get away from a game against Geelong, in dry conditions, with less than a 70 point loss.
Remember, we were within 50 points until red time in the last quarter.

I'm not much of a McGuane fan but I thought he played perhaps his best game last night.

I would have loved to see Andy and Gas in a well resourced team with a better midfield under a coach with half an ounce of nouse. I hope a couple of our backmen now are up to All-Australian standard like those two were.
