Have we improved since we got rid of Frawley?

Phantom said:
Tonight I came away from the ground despairing over our start to the year.

At 3 qtr time it clicked why out midfield had fallen away so badly.

It appears that we play the same group of 3 midfielders out of the centre square for almost 80% of a game - Tuck, Johnson & Foley - whereas the other teams we have played seem to regularly rotate up to 8-10 midfielders through the centre square in the course of the match.

Against both Carlton & Collingwood we died at 1/2 time.
Why?

Is it any coincidence that Tuck, Johnson & Foley seem to be there for the centre clearances for the entire game.

In 2005, with a fresh wave of enthusiasm for juniors, we seemed to rotate far more players through the centre.

I realize Brown & Coughlan have spent large portions of the last seasond injured, but over the last year we seem locked into this narrow group.

Fudge, are you there?

You see those stats.

What do our centre rotations consist of?

How many players are we rotating through the centre?

What portion of time is each player spending in the centre.

Another question.

Why does our first pick in the 2004 draft now play out of a BP?

Can someone answer me that.

What, we used a no.1 pick on a BP player?

I don't know. Tonight I'm well & truly fed up.

With a bit of luck this ache in my head might be terminal.

Great post Phantom until your silly comment at the end. I'm sure you jest. Hope you are still proud to be a Tiger and more importantly glad to be alive. Mate, its a hard pill to swallow when you know what you are talking about. I too ask that question about the midfield rotations. I'm a bit tired of the education process with Lids and Tambling. I say let them roll and do what we think they are capable of. What do you think Phantom, I am interested in your thoughts on this. By the way, I apologise if anyone has dealt with this on the next page. I just wanted to pull you up on your terminal comment.

No we haven't. Frawley got us into a Prelim final. TW is light years from that.

Thank you, JB.

Frawley got us into a preliminary final in 2001 - where we got beaten by 10 goals!

By 2004 we were on the bottom and in Frawleys last 36 matches, we lost 31 of them and in most games were not competitive.

The first 3 games have been disappointing, but in fairness to Wallace and the team, we have been quite competitive in the first two seasons under his guidance. The disappointing part now is that we all hoped that the team would take the next step and win games against weak Carlton and Collingwood sides that we should be winning and we haven't!

Please don't misquote me, YT.

In fairness to Frawley. He was coach of a winning semi final side.

Didn't mis-quote you at all GJ.

I acknowledged that Frawley got us into a Preliminary Final.

And then after thinking that we were only one decent small forward away from a premiserhip, he led us to a bottom four finish for the next three consecutive years! He like many of us made the fatal mistake after 2001 of believing that the list was far stronger than what it was with many players haveing career best years and with the team having a rare good run with injuries in 2001.

The fact is though that the Club gave Danny and his team every opportunity to succeed and to build a competitive team and in his last 3 years we finished bottom four in each of those years and capped off a sensational 2004 by winning the wooden spoon.

As disappointing as the first 3 matches have been this year, we are in far better shape than we were when Frawley left us back in 2004.

For those with very short memories and who at the present frustrating point in time are letting emotion get in the way of logic, may I remind everyone of the last 14 matches under Frawleys tenure back in 2004.

Round 9 - Defeated by Port Adelaide - 78 points.
Round 10 - Defeated by WCE - 37 points
Round 11 - Defeated by Kangaroos - 74 points
Round 12 - Defeated by Fremantle - 10 points
Round 13 - Defeated by Carlton - 31 points
Round 14 - Defeated by Brisbane - 18 points
Round 15 - Pantsed by Essendon - 78 points
Round 16 - Defeated by St Kilda - 44 points
Round 17 - Defeated by Melbourne - 56 points
Round 18 - Defeated by Collingwood - 5 points
Round 19 - Defeated by Geelong - 31 points
Round 20 - Defeated by Adelaide - 52 points
Round 21 - Defeated by Hawthorn - 23 points
Round 22 - Defeated by Sydney - 64 points

Bowden on Rocca and Gas on Medhurst was terrible coaching.

Terrible recruiting actually.

All it suggests to me is that Gaspar is finished but he was two years ago. The fact that he hasn't been adequately replaced in the past three years is simply mind boggling.

Bowden is not a fullback and to me he doesn't look to be enjoying his footy at all at the moment because he's having to play there.

That Gaspar still has to play in our team indicates we haven't improved all that much and the sad thing is that I can't yet see a replacement on the horizon still!!!!!!!

i think we are, we are still trying to get over the sabotage that frawley imposed on our list ( i have a feeling he may have been on the other 15 clubs payroles :headscratch)

thursfield? i think when he's fit and firing gas will be sent down to pasture at coburg

Huge ask for Thursfield to hold down FB.

He's played half a dozen odd games.

Ain't that tall. Ain't that big.

Coming back from a wrecked knee.

Plus the game on Riewoldt was as a CHB anyway.

I hope we're not hanging our hat on Wil becoming our FB..
