The hawks set up a regional defense zone with all of their players within approximately 50 meters of the bounce of the ball and each moving backwards or forwards depending on which team won possession.

Worked very well particularly when we kicked out and they had all of their players defending in our half of the ground.

A further part of the strategy involved all of their defenders going to the ball when we kicked forward.

We seemed to meet it in a rather uneven way. I don't know what is best but instead of just kicking out long to a contest we need to find a way to get to the forward half of the corridor with at least half the players engaged in any one contest, once it gets there?

I think it is a fantastic strategy but relies on your team being ultra-fit and disciplined. It can be undone though. Would like to see how a team like Geelong would fare given that the Hawks do zone-off and pin-point skills could exploit this.

We will have to wait a while to see the match up between the Hawks and Geelong, both teams might be stuffed by the end (or near it) to be a spectacle...
