Hawks Raffle Fiasco

As I understand it Vandenberg and and Brown initiated the contact with licensing and gaming due to the way the raffle was won. Barker, Brown and Vandenberg were unhappy with the way Spider organised the raffle and checked with the Dep of Justice to make sure everthing was above board, the licensing and gaming commission then had an investigation. The results are pending, I don't see how current Hawthorn players/Admin can be blamed for anything.

If we are going to start bagging the Hawks for such a minor infraction then we should make sure our own backyard is pretty clean. As it stands we are the only club to have a player banned for steroid use and have lost a sponsor due to innappropriate player behaviour. The hawks might not be able to run a chook raffle but we have form as drunken drug cheats, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to point out mistakes made by others.

I don't know what you mean about drunken drug cheats or losing a sponsor because of player behaviour but Justin's steroid indiscretion was well discussed at the time.  The Hawks raffle is discussed because it's a current issue and there's no underlying assumption that Richmond have always been squeaky clean.  If the raffle fiasco involved us I'm sure someone would have posted it here too.

(edit: just realised you probably mean TAC as the lost sponsor. Believe me that was very well discussed here.

Fair enough. I was actually reading a thread on BF about it and the Hawks were getting a bit of grief, I mistakenly took the attitude shown on that forum as being the case here. I realise after re-reading this thread that it was just a statement of fact rather than a unfair dig at another team.

Tambling man, are u really a RFC supporter cause ur words have a dawks flavour to it, anyway losing TAC and ive said this before has opened up so many other sponsor opportunities for our club.

i would say he is but he is also saying how it is and i think his post is a very good post he is not trying to upset anyone while stating facts good on him thats better then bagging other teams when a thing like that happens as that can and does happen to people when they don't know about the rules inregards to raffles etc

it is not like what all those west coast players get up to eg what was posted in age yesterday about forums, eg rosey and this place got mentioned too , and a funny story called police line up was brought up i guess it was on bf and all that was in it was a picture of the WC team :rofl

Nah, I'm not a Hawthorn fan. Mind you I do think they have done their future no harm by bottoming out. My original post actually looks out of place on this forum because I was responding to something written on BF. I don't like celebrating other teams for minor infractions, once we are firmly entrenched in the top 4 then we can start bagging other teams culture. Wallace and Miller have done a lot to improve the culture at the club but until we start being regular finalists I don't think we have a leg to stand on. If we are going to bag Hawthorn I'd rather it was over something truly abhorrent like their selling out of Melbourne members with the Tassie move or their tanking in 04 and 05.

I agree that we are better off for losing the TAC sponsorship, but I don't think it is anything to be proud of. Mind you I'd rather have that in our history rather than the Carlton and West Coast's recent references in Martin Rule's drug article in the Age. All teams have skeletons in their closet, I'd simply prefer that fellow tiger fans didn't get so much joy in other teams misfortunes. Carlton losing draft picks for two years for being cheats is something to be happy about, Hawthorn stuffing up a raffle is neither here or there.

I was being mischievous when i made that hawk remark.

Now first i don’t think anyone was celebrating it was a known fact on radio and on the news so i suggest u call Ch 7 and tell them ur thoughts...like u said its neither here or there but it was worthy enough to make the news and while this site is a tiger site, inevitably we will still talk about other teams like they will talk about us.

Your losing me here TM, one minute ur saying, I don't like celebrating other teams for minor infractions, once we are firmly entrenched in the top 4 then we can start bagging other teams culture.....So if we are in the eight its alright to brag, where did u come up with that analogy.

About letting the hawks know all about selling their games in to Tassie, we don't need to do that their own supporters are doing that if u haven't heard already.

TAC, Where did i say i am proud of that, i think u should re-read my post and ul see that at no time did i revel in that all i said was it has now opened up many opportunities which it has, things happen in life, *smile* made a mistake and we’ve moved on and he’s learnt from that, lucky for us our new sponsor AFG alone was worth hundreds of thousands more than TAC.

I know it sounds hypocritical but I don't like celebrating other teams minor infractions when we are just as vulnerable to taunting as they are. I am all for taking the *smile* out of other teams from a position of strength. As I attempted to point out earlier there is nothing wrong with any of your posts re the Hawks raffle saga, the post that got my goat was actually on another forum, which is why my initial post doesn't read well.

I don't have a moral problem with bagging other teams, it is an enjoyable part of footy, I was as happy as a pig in faeces when Carlton lost draft picks and their financial state leaves me tickled pink, Essendons fall from grace last year is also to be cherished. I get endless joy from taunting hawk fans about Tassie, Carlton fans about being poor and Roos supporters about their fanciful recruiting. I'd just prefer to keep the shitstirring to things that actually count for something not an administative error by a former hawk player, otherwise I find myself having to defend the "spitting" scandal the chicken droppings hoopla. Given that your post wasn't actually bagging the Hawks, my concerns about making a big deal over trivial matters doesn't apply to any of the posts made on this thread.

It’s all good TM, that’s what’s great about this forum and others we all have an opinion and we will at times disagree.

But i totally understand now regarding ur points about the other site and how ur post came across on this thread.
