PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

i'll just start off by saying well done to hawthorn for winning the premiership. Something that irks me a bit is when i keep on hearing the media claim that they're a rebuilding, young side who has the 3rd youngest list in the afl. While this may be true statistically, i think the comment is misleading and flatters them a bit when u take a closer look at the team on saturday.
The premiership hawthorn team had 14 out of 22 players 24 years or older:
Crawford 34
Dew 29
Croad 28
Bateman 27
Osborne 26
Guerra 26
Campbell 26
Williams 25
Brown 25
Mitchell 25
Sewell 24
Gilham 24
Hodge 24
Ladson 24

that's quite a bunch of players in the 'right' age group for success that we often hear about (mid to late 20s). Hence it's no wonder hawks were able to pull it off. I'm not taking credit away from them, they'll probably be quite good for the next few years but i'm just making the point that the team isn't as young as the media makes it out to be. On top of that if u look at their vfl team box hill, they're not too crash hot either, perhaps hawthorn's 2nd tier players below just ain't that good
