I didn't agree with a number of the players, but the review itself wasn't too bad.

Without wanting to be slammed as negative, is anyone doubting that this year is going to be tough?

IMO the hallmark of a young side is usually endevour but inconsistency.  Most I yhink would see the playing of young prospects over better players who have no or a limited future as a goodness - I know I do.  It doesn't win you as many games though.

Sometime the club has to get 30-50 games into those players who will be our future senior players.  That is going to take to two to three years and we might as well get started sooner rather than later.
ah a sensible voice amongst the madness.play the bloody kids wallace no more long term duds getting a game in front of kids for the sake of appeasing the many irrational ferals and a few wins. play as many kids as possible  get the games into them and lets get a sellar or gibbs at the next draft.
to my way of thinking thats a win win scenario.

sooner or later wallace will have to face the fact that we still have many duds on the list. sooner or later he will have to play plenty of kids probably when he realises how many duds we still have.im just saying i think it best he realises these facts sooner rather than later. oh and by the way dont ever call me a sandgroper most of them have no idea just like so many tiger ferals.

It's one thing to privately acknowledge such things, it's another to put the message out so the "ferals" don't get frightened by the harsh truth all at once - that can be a "career threatening" move for a coach at Richmond if it isn't done in just the right manner.

Wallace knows the environment he is in, he's happy to "pump up" our squad and say the right things at the right times to keep the majority satisfied, but enough is said (and not said....) to give people a hint of how he may really perceive our situation.

As long as he doesn't get sucked in by the "messiah" compulsion (as others seem to have) he has a chance of improving the place.

let me say its wrong to think in terms of best 22 when a side is in full on rebuilding mode which is what we are supposed to be in. but one wouldnt think it going by many posters on this site and the utiliseation of the draft and the continual selection of players who are not going to take us anywhere.
at this point in the rebuild the best team for the mid to long term good of the club has to have a heavy sprinkling of youth.our starting 22 should look like this.
b thursfield  gaspar newman
hb  deledio  hall  bowden
c  tambling  goughlan  johnson
hf brown  richo meyer
f  p bowden  schulz  rodan
r simmonds tuck foley
int   knobel  jackson hartigan and maybe a mcguane.
if kids like patto polo raines hughes moore jon jackson string good games together at coburg then give them a go when injuies or poor form happens in the ones.the last thing we want to happen is for blokes like chaffey tivendale krakouer etc being perservered with week after week putting in bad games which is what happened last yr.the biggest single priority of the footy dept is to identify the kids who are good enough and get them to 50 odd games as quickly as possible.

i disagree wallace has 5 yrs he only has to be honest something we havent had for 23yrs and he will have his job for the full 5 yrs.surely its best to openly and honestly have very low expectations and if we do okay everyone is happy than to put a better spin on things than neccesary and have ferals going crook if we dont reach those slightly higher expectations.

cheer up my man, one day you'll actually be able to come back to Vic and join us all at training sessions and praccy matches :clap and then you'd be able to give us all an informed analysis of where we are at. And ok, i wont call you sandgroper anymore, howza bout ... quokka :hihi
