A funny thing happened back in the first round of Greg Miller's stand as a Tiger. After round one, we had been hammered and I sent Greg an email, which he kindly responded to. the basic message was this; We have only just started re-building the culture of the club; give us time.
Since that day i have been cautiously optimistic. I believe that most tend to be either pessimistic (Claw!) or optimistic (pretty much everyone else), and the truth lies somewhere in between.
So that was what - 6 or 7 years ago?
My big thing is this - In world sports, there are really only two kinds of clubs.
1. Clubs that have found a manager who has immediately and repeatedly obtained success
2. Clubs turning over managers, in the hope of finding managers who fit in catagory A.
We have tried a different formula. Showed patience. Try an experienced, eloquent manager who handles the pressure and media well. I can and have lived with that.
But.
Didn't work out. Won't work out. Nothing wrong, basically, with the personnel. Certainly not 90 odd points worse than Carlton.
I hear stories about Richmond 'legends' making fools of themselves in front of young players.
So - Do we REALLY not get what we are playing at?
Amateur hour - same as 6, 10 or 20 years ago. March and the board had better look hard at the business structure and how to improve output; I am tired of the Richmond culture looking like the Saints or Melbourne. Do these guys even understand this is a professional sport?
I am tired and am looking for winners to lead our club, not tired old hacks, not average has beens.
there are plenty of winners out there, so lets go and find them.
And if i hear one more 'Richmond people for Richmond' remark, I will scream. There are no living Richmond people worthy of the task.
