After 29 years as a Tiger supporter I have had disappointment as a constant companion. But FFS today took the biscuit! I left not long into the third quarter but me and few mates did do a little experiment before I left. We decided to pick a player or two and watch them exclusively for while, mostly because we were sure they were coasting. And we were right! The most disappointing part was that one of the players was Lids. He is probably the most skillful and gifted bloke at our club yet is often not even in OUR best when he should be leading the comp! I watched McMahon and was amazed that a bloke on his $$$$ could live with himself while doing ABSOLUTELY nothing for large chunks of the game. I watched him for ten minutes as he strode around (never even breaking into a canter) in the empty space staying well away from any contest or opposition player. The only possession he got was a kick-in, and honestly with his turn-over rate I'd rather he didn't do that either.

I saw four blokes put in an honest effort today. Cuz, Titch, King and Hislop. Maybe ad Nahas. That's appalling out of 22! I invite all supporters to play this game until seasons end. I won't be but I'll enjoy reading your reports.

l watched Rewoldt for 10 minutes also and l tell you he his lucky his name is REWOLDT.. l will watch him again for you next week and let you know...
But will not play this game if he is in Coburg..

A huge contradiction on Jack is that he's the one who pumps up the players before and during games but plays like an introvert himself.

Haven't seen the game but am surprised that Lids with 31 possessions and 6 marks, can be singled out as coasting yet Edwards with 8 possessions and 0 marks is praised.

I'm not a fan of stats Rosy. I'm told Collingwood stopped playing in the last, I'd say there was a lot of junk possessions to be had. Lids with his natural skill can get the footy plenty even when coasting. Edwards without Lids' talent works twice as hard for ever one he gets. That's how those stats can happen. I watched Lids "apparently" chase a Pie through the centre. For over 45 metres he didn't close the gap. Caught him in the end but not until he had got rid of the footy. My point is that there are very few in the league that Lids couldn't catch. He wasn't trying. He was at about 75%. Lids at 75% is better than a lot of our side but why isn't he giving it 100%?

Where was he praised?

I've also noticed this with Deledio. Mentioned it a few weeks back and got ripped apart by the Deledio lovers on this forum.

Yeah he's a good player, but he could be GREAT if he tried HARDER.

Yeah he got 31 possessions, but maybe he could have a greater effect on a game if he tried HARDER.

After watching Deledio for long stretches, and also noticing him not giving 100%, 100% of the time, if we accept how he plays now (which is good), then we're accepting mediocrity on his behalf. He can be SOOOO much better.

Recently he has been trying harder, and his statistics and overall effectiveness have increased dramatically. I'm just hoping he gave up today because whats the point at trying 100% when your surrounded by a team of hacks. I'd probably do the same thing in his shoes.

Couldn't agree more KR... Well posted. :clap

Yup. I certainly did. I didn't say he was our best or even in our best. The four I named worked hard, selflessly. The way the Blade seemed to suggest they ought to after the Swans game. Doesn't seem the rest got the message does it?

Edwards was good today, pretty much shut Leon Davis out of the game in the first half
Davis had a pretty decent game in the 2nd half, however Edwards was off the ground for most of the 4th after a knee to the stomach in a marking contest, looked in a lot of pain too, he could barely walk off the ground.
Not many Pies players that lost to their direct opponent, however given Davis' form over the year, Edwards did a pretty good job in pretty difficult circumstances.

Didn't I see him fail to run down Lee Brown today? How that even possible?

Lids was good all day KR.

Collingwood stop playing in the last hey. Well that is certainly when Tuck, Cogs and Brown came into the game.

Fair enough WT if that's the way you saw it. I saw a bloke who could be in the top five in the whole league for ability and pace getting lead to the ball, or coasting in between the wings, not winning his own ball while blokes with a tenth of skill are busting a gut. King isn't pretty but when it's his time to go, he goes with everything he's got. Why is it that the rest of the team can't muster up the same endeavour? You put Kings (or Cuz's or Eddy's or Hislop's) effort at EVERY contest into Lids - and the rest - and the often repeated cattle arguement goes out the window. But as long as these posers refuse to work hard with and especially without the ball and to BLOODY SHEPHERD for each other, nothing will change. All the first round draft picks in the world won't - and haven't - make a lick of difference!
