How did the teams go in the draft?

Maybe there's a new policy on the required kicking skills of our ND prospects these days. A lot of kids were ruled out by GM because of poor kicking skills. Maybe there has been a shift in power among the decision makers.

The other thing is that we got exactly who we wanted this draft, so they all met our minimum required kicking standard.

Maybe, if those three had been unavailable we'd have been forced to compromise on this standard.

Why do people think Hawthorn went tall again?

1. Ellis - a 186cm HBF/W

2. Dowler - a 195cm Key forward - that's 1 of 2.

3. Birchall - a 192cm W/HBF - a tall midfielder, maybe a CHB in time - 1 1/2 of 3.

4. Bailey - a 206cm Ruck - yes, tall - 2 1/2 of 4.

5. Muston - a 189cm RR - very similar to Deledio.

6. Tuck - a 188cm W/RR - very similar to his brother.

So out of 6 players they picked 2 1/2 talls. To me that's well balanced drafting.

2 1/2????????????? Anything in the 190s is tall... Time will tell how well teams drafted....

You just know there has been a greater focus on the required skill level this draft Jack, brought on in no small way by one or two individuals at the club who have: a) not been happy with this aspect of many of our recruits the last few years, and b) a recognition by them (at last) that the game now more than ever is a game of 'keepings off' which makes skill and disposal absolutely paramount.

190+ may be tall but not KPP.

- Bailey - ruck
- Dowler -key forward
- Ellis/Muston/Tuck/ Birchall - onballer/flanker/wing

There does seem to be a new emphasis on kicking. It's hard not to notice with the blokes we've taken this draft.

Looks like it started this year across the board but last year Deledio, Tambling (maybe less so) and Meyer all showed good to excelent kicking skills at their Carnival. It was only after #12 that we started to take kids with (ahem) a bit less kicking skill.

Maybe Wallet has had more control this year, or he's upped the minimum standard across the board.

I think what a lot of people don't take into consideration is finances.

If we traded for pick 59, we were obliged to use it. It means we can't use the PSD if something good is available (doubtful). It's also a gamble that the guys that were talented enough were going to be around at pick 59. If the talent isn't there, and you're forced to pick, you end up with a young guy for 2 years with very little chance of taking it.

There's nothing to stop us taking an under 18 in the PSD rather than a recycled dud.

As for Lucy, he's like Gaspar, but can't kick as well.

Players that can kick? Geez that brings a smile to the face of this Tiger supporter :).

At the risk of stating the obvious...
IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME!

Unforunately Oldie there is nothing in your post that allows you and i to have a crack at each other my man :hihi as i totally agree with you here hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha :clap :hihi

Unfortunately as supporters we are all guilty of being too impatient. Can we really expect to fix our spine problems in just one draft ?? If we can add a Hansen or a Gumbleton in the 2006 draft with what we have picked up in this years draft the whole picture looks a helluva lot rosier. That is of course if we don't find that diamond in the rough already with one of our 2005 rookie selections - hopefully the one funded by PRE !! :clap :clap :spin

I have a feeling PRE contributors will feel as nervous as propsective owners at a yearling sale come 13 December as we will all be pondering which part of the promising colt we actually brought ;D.
