After my computer getting several virusses and having to reformat my computer I decided not to renew my anti-virus protection.

Instead I installed the free version of AVG to try out.

My computer has a virus 1-Worm/Mabutu and I can't find reference to it on AVG's site and don't know how to get rid of it.

Can anyone give me some advice please. :)

Hi Rosy, try this link...
http://www.bitdefender.com/html/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=290#

At the botom of the page there is a link to download a removal tool for it.

Let me know how you go.

AVG is good (I use it), but also get a (free) firewall, like:

http://www.zonelabs.com/

As well, anti-scum-ware software like:

Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
&
Spybot:  http://www.spybot.info/

can also keep your Windows PC a little safer.

I've already got all of the above thanks David. I can't believe I paid so much for an anti-virus for so many years and copped a heap of viruses for my trouble.
The only thing i don't like about AGV is the lack of e-mail support, but maybe I'll upgrade to their paid account and have that service one of these days.

You can do an online scan as a backup to your normal antivirus protection. I've used online scans over the years and they've found things that my computer's own antivirus has missed, especially trojans but also a couple of viruses.

Try here:

If that doesn't work try this one:

Best to go get a coldie while you wait for it to do it's stuff.

I like the way AVG integrates into my Outlook 97, and keeping the definitions up to date with daily downloads seems to keep the nasties at bay.

It's well worth every cent I paid for it......     ;D

The other thing you should do is set your ADSL router to be invisible to anyone on the 'net.......

If you really want to get serious about antivirus you need to look at Kaspersky. We supply enterprise level perimeter security boxes and they use the Kaspersky antivirus engine. Kaspersky was started up by some ex KGB security specialists back in 97 and these guys really know their stuff. They have virus definintion updates several times a day. They have an antivirus product for home users also.
Check out this link

I think currently one of the PC magazines has a free verson of Kaspersky on their CD.
