Not using any of the guys who havent played senior footy yet,an in no paticular order Lids,Raines,Polo,Meyer,Axe,Sarge,Pato,Jon,Bling,White,Wil are all baby's in footy terms, but I ask the question how good do we think the core of our next era is?

That's always the big question, turning talent into performance.
There's no doubt that all these boys have talent.

It's generally agreed that leadership characteristics are 50% inherent and 50% acquired.
Also, one must consider that It's not how these boys compete amongst themselves, but how they compete, as a group, against other similar groups of talented players.

When it comes down to it there are probably 2 major factors:
1. How well the environment at Richmond can develop this talent, and
2. The matching of skills of our boys against other groups
In other words, list & coaching.

Only time can tell.

I think our kids are among the best in the league along with Hawthorn and West Coast. In terms of whether it is enough to get the team a premiership will depend on players like Thursfield, Polak and the Sarge standing up. I think our midfield is definantly going to be ok, as will our forward line. But our ruck and KPD stocks are a little short.

My Ranking of our top 10 kids

- Brett Deledio
- Nathan Foley
- Dean Polo
- Richard Tambling
- Andrew Raines
- Will Thursfield
- Adam Pattison
- Cleve Hughes
- Danny Meyer
- Jay Shultz

That is based on what is shown so far as well as potential.

Comparing the last two times we had such a huge influx of kids:
Current Crop Late 80,s
- Brett Deledio Mathew Knights
- Nathan Foley Craig Lambert
- Dean Polo Jeff Hogg
- Richard Tambling Tony Free
- Andrew Raines Benny Gale
- Will Thursfield Anthony Banik
- Adam Pattison Stephen Ryan
- Cleve Hughes Nathan Bower
- Danny Meyer Justin Pickering
- Jay Shultz Des Ryan

Spot on, including our draftees this year IMO I think we have the best youngsters. I wouldn't have minded us picking up Joel Perry or a ruck option in the draft though.

As we can see with the list above, some of our yougsters will simply not make it. Hopefully for our sake, the players the club really needs will pull through with the goods

Jay Schulz has shown far more than Hughes or Meyer.

He kicked 6 goals against the Lions, he definately has more potential than you give him credit for.

We speak of hoping talent turns into performance well Jay has done this once before (like Polo) so that counts for more than Hughes kicking 2 goals then getting 4 possies.

Hughes will be a great player no doubt, but as far as potential is concerned I think you have a bit of a short memory. Schulz can kick 6 goals at AFL level, and then be inconsistent kicking 2 goals per game. If he turns it on he will be a star.

That is true and I am a very big fan of Shulz. I am in fact his VP this year. But at his age now with the amount of time and games he has had you would expect nothing less. In 4 years time I would expect Hughes to be pulling out even better games then Shulz is right now. Meyer on the other hand is put there purely on the dreaded word potential. I feel that if Jay has to step up this year or else questions will be asked. I definantly think he will step up and expect him to kick 40+ goals this year.

At his age?
He is 21, same age as Nathan Foley and Brent Hartigan, but he is a tall. They havent done anything special but Foley is excused from criticism why? Because he is young?

Questions of Brent Hartigan will also be asked if he doesnt step up and make a position his own this year. I think the reason Foley is being excused is because he is already doing what is asked of him. Not that Jay isnt. I think people have percieved me to be a bit of a Jay hater but im the furthest thing away from that.

The reason I ranked him a little lower than others was more or less because I rate the others a little bit higher. If Jay has another season with 10 games and 20 goal return then people will start questioning his body? ...can it stand up to a full season of football. Players will slowly start to overtake him. Jay is a strong mark, great kick at goal and can crash and bash packs. I honeslty think he will make it. I have more confidence in Jay making it then I do in Danny Meyer but Meyer is above him simply because I think Meyer's potential is limitless.

Well as a Cubs tragic devotee, I reckon we can go close to winning the NL Central now we have acquired Soriano, Lilly, Cotts and retained ARam.
98 years since our last world series, but redeption is close i tell ye!!! ;)

Do you only support hopeless cases on principal Struggs?

With any luck you'll be looking for a new football team in the near future. :hihi

Indeed I do, you celebrate the successes far harder when they happen....RFC Chi Cubs and Fulham rubbish the lot of 'em.

I forgot to add we get Derrick Lee back from injury too climb aboard Cubbiepalooza!

Where do Jackson, Hartigan, Moore and even McGuane fit into this mix?

Jackson: Utililty? Forward? Back? Tagger? What is his position? :-\ Decision making and disposal a concern.

Hartigan: Will likely be a depth player off half back. If his fitness is good may even get a tagging role on the ball. Will make it IMO.

Moore: Third tall down back but the Bowden brothers will keep him out of the team. :headscratch

McGuane: Ideally he'll be able to play full-back but his height and weight are against him, though he is quick. May surprise as a forward. Probably has another season after '07 to prove himself but must continue to show improvement.

I think it'll be a lot clearer on all those players by the end of this season but I haven't written any of them off just yet.

i disagree and it may seem over the top but i think meyer has shown much more than schulz apart from a handful of games.

Danny is an exciting prospect Claw.

His Geelong game highlighted his dash and skill off HB, he has goal sense, genuine footy smarts , pace and class disposal, and ive liked the look of Meyer since i saw him playing for the Burgers in 05.

Hopefully Danny takes the next step or more importantly is allowed to by getting more appropriate game time.

I am a fan and he will add much to the midfield when he fires right up.
