PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

One way to look at this is to guess at an ideal age distribution for the list and an appropriate attrition rate. So here goes.

AGE NO. DESCRIPTION ATTRITION
>30     1-2   250 game champions.                                   1 retirement each year.
27-29  5-6   150 game better than average players         2 retirements and 1 promotion each year.
24-26    9    mixture of averageand better players.         3 promotions each year.
20-23  12    kids with it and some could be's.                  2 delisting and 3 promotions each year.
18-19  12    kids                                                               1 delisting and 5 promotions each year.

The rationale is as as follows
18-19 year olds: of the 6 kids each year after 2 years its probably obvious that 1 just hasn't got it or has injury or attitude problems eg McGrath.
20-23 year olds: probably take 2-3 project players who shows some signs but don't make it with the extra year or two.
24-26 year olds: should never be delisted except for injury, if they are not good enough why did they get this far.
27-29 year olds: better than average players that start to run out of legs in this age category and will start to retire/delist
>30 years old: risky to consitently run more than two in this category without putting a hole in future lists.
I have assumed trades are done within age groups for specific player types which means the club should draft the best available and trade to fill player types.

Based on these assumptions, which are not precise but not unrealistic, it would be dangerous to draft less than 6 young kids every season. Therefore it would be dangerous to trade more than 1-2 draft picks each year. Comments?
