5 years ago the Messiah arrived promising to lead us to the promised land. Instead we have drowned in a sea of ineptitude and mediocrity. Will a new Messiah now arise and promise us a new land of opportunity, milk and honey??

If this is so, then what will this new leader of men have to do to to achieve success? Clean out the deadwood, which comprises older players and the "recruits," which are not up to AFL standard. This is what the great unwashed of the media are trumpeting. How long do we have to wait, as the faithful followers, until this promised land is reached? Another 5 years?? Who of the existing team will survive the rigors of the journey?? How many of these gladiators will form the nucleus of the future Richmond team?

And who will be this intrepid man of great wisdom and skill be?? Questions questions!!!

The Mid Year Review should give us all an insight into how long it will take before we can expect finals football. IMHO I reckon at least 5 years, depends on how well they clean out the playing list and more importantly get their player development programmes running properly.

As many years as it takes.

No one has a magic wand to wave.

I think we're a lot closer to finals football than people suggest...

Our main problem isn't with our younger players (sure we've got some deficiencies in our list management, but what club doesn't), but lies moreso with our older generation.

Once the elders are kicked out, gone will be their mentality, their automatic selections regardless of form, and it will give our youngsters, who haven't had a chance to take ownership of this club, to do exactly that. With more game time, comes more experience which breeds confidence and growth. This could do wonders for a side with a bunch of talented youngsters.

I'd say finals within 2-3 years.

you'll be pleased to know that I do have the magic answer (although not too pleased by the answer itself)

(hey, I spent too long on this not to re-hash it one more time :P)

If it's going to happen soon it's got to be in the Deledio/Cotchin prime seasons.
Best young players that we have had at the club in years & must build with that timeframe in mind.

More than that I hope JB.

It means that the players/team are no good. The new coach will need to start again and rebuild.

Thanks for that. Probably you are right. The problem is, as someone else posted you can't delist 12 players all at once

I would predict 2/3 based on the age of our list and the potential for our core to be all starting to come through together by that stage. Winning a flag, well that depends on what we do from here regarding recruiting, players development and game plan. To win a flag you need on field leaders of which we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for at the moment.

Hopefully, and optimistically, we will recruit a quality forward and midfielder, Lids, Cotch and Jack become strong leaders and our coach instill unity and belief in the group on the back of a good game plan and we do win a flag in the next 4-8 years but there is a lot of if there.... :(
