How many votes did our captain get in the brownlow????

People are too hard on the umpires. Name any other media award that is won by a defensive player.

Agreed and....
Isnt that why we have the AA?
So that outstanding players in all positions can be recognised

I'd even stick my neck out here GPB and say rainsey and even Kayne Pettifer had a better season than the captain but the brightsiders on this thread would have me for breakfast. Let's not let facts get in the way hey?

Haha @ mentioning facts after posting your opinion.  The only fact is Kane won the medal. :clap

Quite correct. But tell me honestly rosy, if I had've asked you just prior to the B&F who out of Troy simmonds, Joel Bowden and Kane Johnson would win the medal, would you really have said Kane would win?

Oh & by the way, maybe Rosy can bump up that thread that all us PRE'enders gave our 1, 2, 3 votes for the best player of each round.  This thread will show us exactly where Sugar rated in all the wash-up.

Not sure about your reasoning behind the results geoffry. Seeing we had Johnno a long way ahead of Joel I'm interested to read your theory about these results. ;)

Raines 40 894
Simmonds 1 875
Richardson 1 845
Polo 33 470
Pettifer 432
Johnson 410
Foley 1 400
Deledio 71 356
Bowden J 23 345
Bowden P 301
Hyde 250
Coughlan 236
Tuck 216
Kellaway 200

iitb I had Kane in my top 5. I thought Joel might win but I don't see the relevance. We have a tendancy to vote for kids and favourites on here. PREnders on this poll didn't value Tivva as highly as the coaches did. The coaches obviously have different, and more informed, criteria than we do. It's not a matter of right or wrong. Time to congratulate Kane and move on.

hmmmmmm. Yeah I know I know. He was given a role and followed instructions. BIG DEAL!!!! Troy simmonds deserved the B&F by a mile.

Sorry, but that's reality.

If you looked at herald sun brownlow guide from the other day you would notice that big named midfielders did not expect to poll well against richmond because they were "welll held by kane johnson". Great effort tagging some guns this season. Went unnoticed by many.

B.Kirk got nine Brownlow votes. Wonder how he'll go in the Swans B&F. One third of Adam Goodes's value?

The fact is that the umpires award is just that. Not many duds win it. But not even Mike Sheahan rates players according to the number of Brownlow votes they get.

Sugar is our only AFL class starting midfielder ATM. Any wonder we got smashed at the stoppages in 2006.

But we've got some youngsters coming through. And more coming on to the list. Hopefully Cogs coming back to form in a year or so.

It can only get better.

Bloodnut - dud with a big mouth. ;D

I was thinking about this question the other day.

Do ex AFL footballers consider NOT taking media jobs as it will deminish their reputation?

Silvani for example as a kid was one of my faviourite (non Richmond) players - i though he was awesome.
Now i keep hearing how he would be a good assisant and eventually senior coach.

I just can't get beyond that he is the worst special comments man in football (radio or TV) he gives nothing - offers nothing insiteful and to me sounds stupid most of the time.

I now can't get past this opinion of him, therefore dimishing my footballer view of him.

Am I off the mark here? I wouldn't invite him to lunch let alone let him coach my team!

I think you are onto something here BO.

Who would give Dermie a coaching caper?
The guy was a superstar footballer but now he comes across as an aging rockstar who plays the fool and reinvents the English language.

Who else?

Blighty comes across and a dithering, bibbering idiot and people would wonder how he ever coached a side to a premiership.

Gary Ayres made me want to go to sleep as a commentator, seems he's had the same effect on the Bombers.

The list goes on...

On the other hand Luke Darcy has some terrific ideas about footy and might make a great coach.
I also like listening to Mark Bickley and Wayne Schwass so perhaps they have used the media to raise their profiles and potential coaching prospects. :fing32

Cheers mb. I gather someone with over 10,000 posts would have some idea of what's going on.
