PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Whilst being criticised from many so called experts and commentators I for one commend the board for it's actions in getting the club back on it's feet financially and with it's handling of Terry Wallace this season.

Patrick Smith on KB's show this morning said that there was a push by "Terry's mates" in the media to get him out of his job and back into the media in a few weeks time. Smith said that as far as he knew the club wanted Terry to see out his contract.

5 years is a long time. A lot has happened and a lot has changed.

Terry quite clearly will not be coach next year. The benefits of keeping him there till year end are far outweighed by the negatives.

The biggest and most importatnt "negative" is the players mindset.

Whether our players are mentally weak or not makes no difference.

They need a new voice and a new direction, full stop.

The sooner it happens the sooner the past is erased and they can get on with the job of starting again.

And while the new voice may not be the "new coach", it is the current psychological position that the players and club finds itself in that needs to be changed and changed now.

Looking back to when Terry first took over in 2005, we won 10 games from 4 the previous year under spud.

The club made spud stay till the end and both he and the club later said that he should not have.

The opposite happened at the Hawks, Schwab walked, as did Rhode at the Bulldogs, we know what has happened to them since.

Change the midset, remove the stigma, start again now, not at the end of the year. The sooner it happens the better.

The club and Terry need to come together and arrange for him to be paid out and for him to say that he believes he cannot do any more and should move on for the benefit of both parties.

That way prospective coaches will not be frightened away by the prospect of us sacking coaches like we used to.

Surely this is commen sense?

How much money is the club losing in lower attendances and merchandise and coteries?

How much has been lost because membership has hit a brick wall since Round 1?

How many kids are being turned off being Richmond supporters?

How much damage is being done to the Richmond brand?

And how much damage is being done to our younger players minds?

And a change of voice needs to be exactly that. Not King, Royal or Campbell. Someone completely different who will change the game style, play kids and change the direction, or should I say give us direction, on the field.
Stop the chip, chip, handpasss go backwards, round the flanks crap that the players have been taught and go back to bloody basics.

Terry's first year saw 10 wins from 4 the previous year, had spud walked who knows, we might have just got that extra win in '05 and made finals, and all of this may not have happened.

Stop the bleeding. There ain't much blood left!

Give us some bloody hope!
