Obviously only one bitter reporters belief we are close to the limit.

well if he is even close to being right - I am now concerned.

we have a lot of youth in our team - If hes even close to being right it means we will have trouble re-negotiating as the kids improve and deserve more.

heres some questions

1. Are we overpaying our older players.
2. Are way overpaying our mid age players - ( hard to believe as we have stuff all)
3. Are we already overpaying our kids ( this really worries me)

I am troubled - we all say get rid of the mid age duds - and keep getting kids all the time.

well we need mid range players to be on the contracts that you don't yet want to pay the kids.

I pray to god we're not overpaying our kids yet.

I'm not all up with how it all works, but surely with a young list we shouldn't be even close to the limit yet.

Is anyone else concerned this report may be close to being correct.

A lot of guys to get the chop next year. We've already lost mature-aged players like Hyde and Tivvers, and next year should see the end of Johnson and Pettifer. That should free up some space. Passing on the final rookie pick should offset some of the expense of Cousins' selection. I don't think a club that's consistently posting profits and seems to have the off-field direction of the club under control would make such elementary mistakes.

If anything I'd be concerned about losing a player instead - a potential King, Moore, White, Foley etc.

The other thing is it should encourage any players who might have been thinking of looking elsewhere for finals footy to stay with the club. Having an absolute champ like Cousins in the side brings a lot of positivity, and they'll want to stick around to play under the guy.

Not too concerned, but worth bearing in mind for sure.

I always thought we were one of the lower end clubs when it came to TPP.

I wouldn't really worry about it, probably just reporters looking for something to tiger-bash

A few months ago Gary March said we were cutting our Salary Cap down to 90%.

Either we didn't follow through, or the reporter got it wrong.

Either way don't worry - we have six 30yo's who will retire within the next 3 years or so and that will free up a lot of room.

Barrett alleged we were had only 120k to spare in his article. Yet we've taken Cousins in the PSD which must surely be costing us a lot more than that.

The events contradict Barret's allegations.

Cousins nominated a price of around $60-65k for the National Draft, I can't see that being too different for the PSD
After match payments that would be $120k+ for the 2009 season if he plays the whole year

There is only a gap of about $600k between the 92.5% minimum TPP and the 100% max, but what that doesn't take into account is veterans payments which mean you can claim much more but still be under. Without knowing how much of our veterans salaries we are including in the TPP it could be anything.

Considering we were considering chasing Kerr during the season, I wouldn't think the salary cap was an issue
