How Predictable Were Our Selections?

It seems that just about every Phantom draft had us taking Vickery, Post and Hisplop. Jon Ralph at the Herald Sun even wrote that we had offered Hislop a 2 year deal.

How transparent are we? I thought our picks should have been kept a secret from not only other AFL clubs but the media.

Is there a leak at the club, do we talk too much to people at other clubs or do our recruiters use other peoples phantom drafts to make our selections.

How can the Herald Sun phantom draft and Burgatrons draft know we would selected Post at pick 26?

Would Post have been selected by anyone else in the draft?

Conspiracy theory.........it was an inside job by someone at RFC. ;D

It was that bitter and twisted Miller bloke.

Even after all the damage he has already caused he still hinders this club.

;)

Richmond recruiting manager Francis Jackson revealed the Tigers wanted to take Tasmanian Bart McCulloch with pick 70 but the Brisbane Lions snagged the ruckman at pick 69.

`` We got plotted by Brisbane who took a player we were going to take at pick 70,’’ Jackson said.

``That’s part of the caper.’’

It also explains why the Tigers passed on their last pick.

So no other player was worth looking at after McCulloch was taken?

Will we ever have a Plan B & C ready to use in these circumstances.

i don`t think there`s a leak, there`s always a general consensus of what player will go at what place.
especially the top 10.

it`s really not that hard to get them right.

we did have a plan b.

"We just felt that the draft ran out of a bit of depth there, so we'll sit back and get a few kids in see how they go before the pre-season draft."

Exactly - probably all our identified players were gone, so why pick for the sake of calling a name. Get a whole bunch of kids down for a week or two and make a more informed decision. Pick 70 would have about 10-20% success rate - waiting and spending more time on a PSD selection should up the % at least a bit - Matty White is the perfect point in case!

I thought 100% of homework on the kids would've been done before the ND.

What's a 2 week holiday at another club's training camp going to realistically show?

Most of the analytical homework would have been - but 100% is unachievable when talking about a young developing footballer. Having " a run" with the team may show up new dimensions of a person and his skills. Ever gone and trained or played somewhere above yourself?

I wonder how many times a kid 'over-trains' just to impress but never performed well during a season. What's the success rate over the years?

If our strategy is to pass on a pick so we can try out unchosen kids for PSD, what if those kids on our list (if they had one) get chosen by other clubs after pick 70 in the ND?

Nothing wrong with a closer look at a player, you can't do anything except watch them and interview them prior to the draft
Would hope we have a closer look at Sibosado, Gaertner and maybe Rockliff
Not sure we need a *smile* type anymore now we have Tuck, Cogs, Thompson & Hislop as inside mids.
Gartner could be a substitute for McCulloch, similar tall athletic types

we certainlydont need a *smile* type we have enough mids now with questionable kicking skills including the ones you mention sheesh we added two more this trade/draft period.
matt *smile* got overlooked because he cant kick im surprised we didnt take him at 70 hed fit right in at richmond.

on the topic it was patently clear and has been for yrs that we needed a ruckman vickery was easy to predict.i wonder what would have happened if rich slipped one more spot and we had the choice between rich and vickery i know which one i would have grabbed.

its also common knowledge by the footy world that jackson loved hislop it was easy to predict we would take him somewhere in the draft personally i would have waited to pick 70 and if someone else picked him up before so be it.

jayden post is the worry as far as i can see there was nothing to suggest we would take him other than we needed kpps desperately.WE STILL DO.
there are some aspects to his game that after hearing the club talk we would not be taking him.
