While we in Victoria scratch our heads looking for replacement options to our senior teams but are frustrated by the fact that our local state-based competition, the VFL, hasn't even got out of bed yet, other state based comps are in full swing.
The WAFL has already played 3 rounds of footy. This is a clear reason why the Weagles were able to swing 5 changes to their team to gain match practiced players in their upset win against Port.
Atop of that, in WA, if a prospective AFL player can't get a WAFL game because of a bye, he is given a game in an alternative team's reserves.
We saw this last week Josh Kennedy's East Freo have a bye, so he got a game with Perth reserves.
The previous week, Matt *smile*'s Claremont had a bye, so he got a run in an alternative teams reserves.
Could we do that in the AFL/VFL?
Moreso, could we bring ourselves to do that, especially for other AFL clubs in the VFL?
In the SANFL, they've already played 2 games.
The QFL has already played a round. Same with the NSW/ACT.
Even Tassie is aleady off the mark.
And when does the VFL begin?
Well, hopefully by September.
(Well there's one footy organisation that needs a big kick up the backside.)
