PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

While i was on my daily run @ 4am in the wind and rain i thought of this topic.

I had some great questions to ask and points to make for discussion but i may miss so much of what i wanted to write.

Here goes:

How would you rate his first two years at the helm ?

Poor

Fair

Pass

Good

I personally would rate his first two years as a pass. A 6 out of 10

I think media wise he has been great and a breath of fresh air around the place amid the doom and gloom of the previous years. His recruitment of David King as one of his assistants to get some personality and voice with the players was a masterstroke.

Another one of his pluses for me has been his recruitment of kids and with so many kids played this year(the most of any club) and goes well for next year.

He has coached well in games which we were not given a chance eg the Crows, Collingwood, Cats and the Power but suffering 3 100 pts thrashings has been hard to stomach especially when this hadnt occurred that many times in Frawley's reign let alone in one single year. He has been outcoached and out thought and some selections have been frustrating and confusing.

He chose the Tigers over the Hawks when he was targeted by them and i believe stated at the time he came to us as we had" the better list and better kids". In two seasons so far he has been proven right but lets hope this doesnt come back to haunt him.

Another plus for me has been his reluctance to be held for ransom ala the Ottens saga. He wanted more money, we were not prepared to give him more and he was traded. This didnt happen with Holland or with *smile* when they were targeted by other clubs after *smile* all australian and Holland's great year at CHB. Hindsight is always a wonderful thing to me but one of my beliefs is that if a player wants to go or is offered more money elsewhere a player should never hold a club for ransom. You want more money or want to go- THEN THERE IS THE DOOR. We can only wonder what would have been as Adelaide were offering the world for us with Holland and i believe so were Freemantle with *smile*. Both suffered knee injuries after all this !

His insistance in playing players that may have no future when not playing kids whose futures are on the line i am questioning buth then again i am sure he is having maybe one last look at them before (unfortunately) those players are let go, traded, delisted ....

We and he desperately need to recruit a skills coach as Royal has been a dissapointment to me.

He has been given five years so to me personally next year is CRITICAL in many ways.

Cheers
