Huddo interviewing KB on SEN now

Some of these posts are just bulls--t. Unless you darksiders that are paying out on KB have some inside knowledge, which I doubt. You've got no idea what's been going on behind the scenes.
And as far as paying out on KB when you know his son is reading it, that's week as p-ss.
I doubt you'd just stand there and take some cheap shot if someone had a shot at your old man.
But then somebody that hides behind a keyboard on cyberspace and has a go at someone maybe you would.

LIFT YOUR GAME YOU LOT!!
Let's see if that hits the mark P08 ;)

Your right CM Tiger. Charlie Callender was a legend.

I remember the first game we wore those "lovely" yellow shorts back in the mid 70's.
I was sitting on the fence next to the players race.
About half way through the last quarter Mal Brown got his shorts ripped off and threw them into the gutter in front of me as he changed into his new ones.
As the siren went I jumped the fence and grabbed them as a souvenir but Charlie the scrooge grabbed me and made me give them back. What for I don't know they were ripped in half.
Being a fit young whipper snipper I should have given Old Charlie a run for his money.
Never forgave him for that!!
I think we actually used to win a few games back then. :)

By saying jack never went away I meant that i don't think there was ever a period when he was estranged from the club. I might be wrong, though. Someone like Growl might be able to clarify it.

I may stand corrected, but Jack actually spent considerable time away from the club- more than dad.. He was replaced by Alby Pannam as coach, and never let that done.

In the history book I wrote, it is mentioned by several players that Jack never really returned to the club. If he did, it was one off moments.

Rhett Bartlett

Rhett, in the small clip of you I saw at the launch, you said the book had been 8 years in the writing. Did you set out initially to write the book or was it something that just evolved over time?

Charlie Callander is forever Richmond.

From what I know of him, Callander was obviously in a league of his own when it comes to devotion to the Tigers.

But I reckon Tom Hafey and George Brown are/were of the same breed.

It evolved.
Initially I just wanted to record old timers memories before they pass on.
Once I started to get them, I felt that the supporters needed to read them

Fair play.

Mines on order. Can't wait to read it. Great concept Rhett, too often memories and stories are lost forever, this way they are passed down for future generations.
Its a massive contribution to Richmonds' culture, traditions and history to have these memories recorded for posterity.
A labour of love but an enormous workload, I'm guessing. Well done mate. :thumbsup

Anyone know if Charlie Callander had a brother or a cousin by the same name that played for Richmond? I know a guy by the name of Callander who has told me his old man played for Richmond, just wondering if it was Charlie or another Callander.

You're right there, Rhett.

As Dyer said in the book Captain Blood, he believed he was the victim of football treachery twice: once as a Richmond player and again as coach.

Indeed, he devotes an entire chapter to his treatment and titles it 'Treachery'. In summary, Dyer claimed that of the 10 years as coach, Richmond made the final four 6 times and missed out twice on percentages. A secret meeting of the club executive resulted in him being instructed to resign. The crowning insult, of course, was that THEY installed a Collingwood man as Dyer's replacement, and Richmond slowly declined as a force.

Dyer was so bitter about the underhandedness of his sacking that he stayed away from the club for a year. But he was active later in recruiting and he worked in with Graeme Richmond.

Charlie Callander was my grandfathers cousin. My grandfather was an SP bookie in Northcote and I used to spend quite a lot of time with him. When Charlie heard I was a Tiger supporter, he came over and gave me a brown bag with Roy Wrights jumper inside. I was about 7 and I wore it for years.

About 12 years ago I was holidaying with my family in Painsville, Eastern Vic. Iwas sitting in the car waiting... and saw this big guy in a car parked opposite who could only have been Roy. I had a footy in the back and took it across and introduced myself. Fantastic bloke .. I was living overseas at the time and we started a correspondence. Will never forget him or Uncle Charlie.

Wonderful story MT, did Charlie ask for the brown bag back? :cutelaugh

Dusty O'Brien was Charlie's No2 for a long time and was pretty deadly with the property too. Me and my brother tried to knick off with a training ball one evening in 1980 but despite the training balls flying everywhere (goal kicking practice) Dusty had us covered.
