I am a little worried about Hardwick..

As i said, if truth is your reference point, then lets hear what he really thinks about the players( eg McMahon)

Oh, thats right you only want truth sometimes!

Telling the public we are going to have terrible losses...please

Sorry Flogger it's taken me a bit of time to get back to your your response.

Look, I'm not sure where you are going with what you are talking about. Why would DH start talking about certain players not being up to it in Feb?

When DH talked about terrrible losses, he was simply talking after the game to the press. It wasn't part of some sort of hard hitting interview where he chose to talk truthfully about some things and kept other things close to his chest.

Here is some of what DH said after the game -

"It's pre-season so it's not too exciting to be honest," he said.

"I was just really happy with the guys' endeavour. I thought from where we were two weeks ago, we needed to show a bit more, so it's really pleasing not from my point of view but the team in general played really well today which was good.
"From our point of view it was all about the game plan and getting that up and going.

"Against Hawthorn it really struggled to take place. Hawthorn's pressure was outstanding and we just couldn't get our hand on the ball. This week the boys took it in their resolve to get out there and show them what they're made of, so it was really good."

While Brett Deledio, Richard Tambling, Riewoldt (four goals), Shane Edwards, Luke McGuane, Nahas and Morton (three goals) were impressive, Hardwick singled out youngsters Taylor and Roberts and was also pleased with Graham Polak's game.

"We're just building a nice little forward line that will take some time," he said. "Like our side, we're going to have some good quarters, some good halves and some good games, but we're also going to have some terrible losses."

So all DH was saying is that the 1st practice game against Haw was poor, and he was happier with the second practice game against Geel. All pretty stock standard stuff. Simply happier this week that last week.

And the terrible loss thing is just saying we are young and developing and we will be up and down. No real shock about that. Very young teams are up and down. I think everyone knows that. The press often pick up on little things and blow them up into headlines. But even the press can't turn the terrible loss line into the headline because there is no story. It's just an obvious statement.

So it's going to be an up and down year. Thats pretty obvious. Basically everyone is hoping we really improve this year and show good signs for the future, while at the same time knowing there will be some bad weeks too. If you not ready for that, then you better get ready, cos thats how it will be. Hopefully more good than bad though.

I think any comments DH made on the weekend you have either misunderstood or you have made far too big a deal about it. And also I think to say anything negative about the coach in Feb in his first season is way too harsh. Basically the sort of thing that makes other supporters laugh at us.

Cheers

Gee thanks Jack. I had no idea what was gong on till you illuminated it all for me.

I still think the use of the term "terrible Lossses" was not needed...and please..don't try and tel me what he meant!

Thought Jack was more respectful to you that you've earned around here Flogmeister. Pathetic response by you in the circumstances..................

If I were the opposition coach I wouldn't be playing my best defender on Polak. Now that sends dual messages, because if there is no other forward worthy of the oppositions best defender, then imo, we're buggered.

And that may not be a bad thing, and may result in Polak bobbing up and causing a few problems for opposition teams. I certainly remember him causing a few problems for Collingwood a couple of years ago, and if his confidence grows it could be a good move for us in the short term. After all he is another big body that is capable, if not given enough respect.

Ok. What did he mean then Flog?

He meant what he said-that we will probably have some terrible losses.

I am not saying what he said isn't true( it may be) but I was questioning the wisdom of saying it. The issue. isn't the truth or otherwise of the statement.

In my view (hopefully on here I can have one!), it provides a nice cop out for the coaching staff and the players and could be a self fullfilling propehcy. As I said previously, you bat someone at no 11 and they will perform accordingly. I would rather him we won't be tolerating losses rather than saying he is expecting some terrible ones??
I just reckon all the talk about a young list, 14 new players blah blah blah has been done to death.
We don't have to have "terrible losses" to progress

Of course you can mate... Some people on here need to settle down a bit.

I agree with you to an extent, but the truth of the matter is we will have terrible loses (whether we like it or not) and he's trying to communicate that to the media and to the supporters.

Agree - but our list is young, and we do have 14 new players. At least he's talking truths and not spinning *smile*.

Maybe not, but it is inevitable, and he's gearing us up for it. So I understand exactly where he's coming from.

I doubt he'll be happy when we do get smashed and he'll deal with the players accordingly.

Stop trying to make something out of nothing. Polak was nearly killed last year and there is nothing wrong with giving the kid a little confidence. Do you know 100% what Polaks role was? Hardwick does..
Hardwick may end up not being a good coach, time will tell. But at the moment support him as he is trying to help the RFC. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe he just wants to coach and not as confident with the media (what he is employed to do.). Not like our last coach. Worried about what the other coaches left behind, possum poo, I have un-finishist business (is that how you spell it B1?), etc etc..

At the end of the day it's what he says to the players not the media, and l am happy with that. What do you think B1?

Thanks B2.

Others on this forum get told off for posts that don't contribute to the thread, here we have a schizophrenic doing the same and gets away with it. You can easily call this double standards.

just let the man coach for gods sake.

What a silly idea punky. Lets try and expose every thing he says or does. Lets put pressure on him so he may walk. Then we will try and find another coach. ;)

Its called being realistic!

I've been thru all the posts in this segment and I will agree with the big majority.
DH is doing everything right at the moment and shows the determination to lead us to a future top
of the ladder.
There will be a few rocks from the bottom rungs but they will not rock as much as they did in the past..
10 years.

We don't have to have "terrible losses" to progress

1. Of course you can have an opinion.

2. Don't get all deffencive when people don't agree with that opinion. And don't border on being a smart arse at times either.

3. You highlighted probably. Read it again. DH does not say probably. It will happen. It already has happened if you want to include practice games. Get used to it. It's what very young teams do.

4. You talked about cop outs and self fulfilling propehcy. Don't agree. What do you think DH would of said to the players the week after the Haw game? Do you think he just said "oh well we are young and that happens, don't worry about it?" What he says in public and to the players are completely different things.

To the public he says that we are young and these things happen. And thats true. To the players behind closed doors he would be telling the players all about the things we did well and things we did bad. And against Haw we did a lot bad. So thats where the coaches earn their money, teaching our young list the game style they want them to play. There would be some friendly and helpful advise and probably some firm words used too to teach our players and make them understand what is expected.

So basically the coaches are doing exactly what this year is about. Development and building. So to the public DH will be honest and tell everyone what is obvious eg terrible losses. But behind closed doors the players will be getting educated and at times told very firmly what is expected.

DH and co are not stupid. You don't expect one line like terrible losses given to the press to be our players education do you? ( re your batting no 11 comparison ) as you are suggesting.

And all the talk re 14 new players and young list needs to be done to death because the point needs to get through to people like yourself who I would say still haven't got the message.

Look I'm not sure how old you are, but many of us here can remember a time ( only just ) when we were a good club. Since then we have had more coaches then hot dinners and we have seen a culture where our supporters eat our own. Our club has failed and become the laughing stock of the AFL for too long. We want to give DH and his team time to do what they have to do and try and build us a winning team. It will take a few years. Be fair, and give them a go and support our club. At times this year we are going to need it.

Cheers
