Despite our losses, I have a glimmer of hope on a season that I dreaded commencing. A few of the younger players are showing signs of emerging from the shadows of the older players and assuming responsibility for turning/saving games.
Delidio, Polo, Foley and even *smile* of whom I am a well recorded doubter, all seem to have taken pro-active steps in their roles to make something happen for the team rather than be there to help the so called senior players.
Even players like Tambling and McGuane have shown an inclination to back themselves to make something happen rather than just be there to help out.
I think sometime this season the generation next will realise that it is they who should be calling the shots and making the plays to take the team forward. It is a self belief thing. The next step is team belief.
We get Brown, Simmonds and Thursfield back, which gives Tambling gets more freedom in the forwad line, lets a fresh Patto ruck against opponents that have been worked over by Simmonds, and releases Joel to a rebound role. We get a piece of luck with another young player like Edwards, Reiwoldt or even Meyer realising they can mix it at the top level and all of sudden the gap between us and the others has closed.
Hopefully it clicks in R5 not R20. Go Tiges.
