I can't wait to see Richie Tambling play this year. [Merged]

He'll make it.

I liken his situation to Giansiracusa and McMahon at the Bulldogs. Both those kids are quick and have exceptional skills just like Tambling. But also like Tambling, they were skinny runts (still are, really) who came to a crap side and who took a few years to adjust. When they first came to the Dogs the Dogs supporters (I work with a couple) used to bag the living daylights out of them over the exact same issues some RFC supporters bag Tambling over.

I truly believe him and Meyer are two that we need to (and should) persist with for a few years. Between their lack of strength and size, and the fact they are playing in such a crap side at the moment, they’re gonna take a while to come into their own.

Supporters always bag players when their teams lose. One of my mates is a die-hard Bulldogs supporter who bagged Scott West unmercifully for at least his first five seasons of AFL. Even now, he chooses to say very little about him. He thinks West is weak, doesn't go for the hard ball and lacks the courage to put his body on the line. Personally, I wish we had 10 just like him.

Footy is not the hard man's game it used to be. Today's courage is the courage to run hard all game.

The bulldogs and the Tigers actually make for some interesting comparisons:

Murphy, Giansiracusa, McMahon, Birss, Morris, Eagleton, Gilbee, Cooney, Griffin and Ray

against

Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Raines, Thursfield, JON, Casserly, White, Roach, Moore.

In 12 months time, we will match them for pace.

On another note, it is interesting that the Saints have seen what the Bulldogs did to us with pace and brought in Fiora, Montagna and Clarke.

How much longer can Wallace keep his powder dry?

Until those boys you've named are ready. We're not blowing this chance because of impatience.
if it's a year of pain...so be it...bring it on.
PS: you missed Polo, Foley, Roach, hartigan, and Jacko. ;)

I agree with you that we have to wait. However, the events of last weekend have shown that it is all about pace and skill. Maybe that is an aberration and in a few weeks time, coaches will counter the advantage that this sort of player has been give, who knows?

It is clear enough though, that the slowies are on the way out. Even Malthouse has realised that Wakelin was a liability. Gaspar, Kellaway and Krakouer will go the same way.

Even thought Krak seems to be able to hit targets by foot... ? Seems like a pretty simple ask, but I suppose not many of them did it at all last week. I hope this improves, it could only improve couldn't it ?

:help

I couldn't care less, now, that we got rolled by 20 goals last week.
and tonight if we get done by 10 goals: Whatever - it's an improvement.

To me, it's all about our holy grail: FINALS FOOTY.

last year we won most of the first 11 games but missed the finals.

this year, If we get smashed in the first 4 games, then win some games and then later on really start playing good footy (don't be suprised) and string enough wins together to make finals, then for a change we'll be playing good footy at the right time.

If so; great. If not: we're closer to unleashing the next generation of players

That is exactly my view. It has been obvious that there will be no glory for us this year since before last season began. We are moving from one model to another, and the players that we need are different sorts of players to the ones we had.

If round 1 was an indication of the sort of footy that will be played this year, a lot of careers will end prematurely and a lot of others will get a real boost quickly. IF a guy is fast and has the skills to match, it may not matter if he is under 80kg. Last season, he would have been crunched in the clinches.

Let's watch what happens with interest. The Bulldogs, Hawks, Crows and Eagles will set the early pace, with their mobile mid-fields. How will other clubs counter this? Will they try to take away their run by clagging up the game (getting harder to do), or will they crank up their own pace with the stockpile of underdone quick kids that most clubs have been assembling?

If the majority go down the latter path, lack of size and experience won't matter much.

I thought Richie had a very encouraging game last night. Probably his best so far for the Tiges.

Sure he's no world beater yet, but there was a little to get excited about.

Just started to see the glipses of polish just starting to appear.

Going to keep Krak out of the firsts for another week yet.

Has finally started to hold his marks. I reckon this is a good sign, and augers well for the future.
