For a maths assignment i am asked to decide who will win the grand final based on statistics and if we want, mathematical equations. Anyone got any ideas on what to base it on?

Bookmakers' odds are notoriously accurate over a large sample on all sports. Perhaps as a very basic method, you could take the average odds for each of the eight finalists from all the bookmakers you can find, work out the market percentage and multiply the average odds by that percentage, e.g. if West Coast are $3.00 & average market percentage is 125%, true odds are 100/ ((3.00 + 1) * 1.25) = 20% = $4.00. PM me if you want to go down this track and need clarification.

Alternatively you could ask for an extension and hand the assignment in after September 30. ;)
