I think Newman did the right thing.

After watching The Footy Show, I am angry. It was ok for Garry Lyon to question Chris Newman's character but why did'nt question Hutchy's story. How can he supposedly know what was said in the meeting at Gary March's office. The players said nothing for me to believe what Hutchy or even Caro is fact.
What I believed happened was the some players had issues with Wallace's poor game plan and Newman went to Wallace with these issues. So I believe they all decided to have a meeting to get the issues on the table and to try and rectify these issues. This is the Captain's job to be the voice of the players.
I am sick of everyone believing these stories in the media, even after the fiasco on Tuesday.

I'm with you Cho. The only ones who know what was said behind closed doors are the people involved. Everything in the media is really just an opinion of the person writing it, and we all know the media love to bag out Richmond at every opportunity they get.

OK then we'll await the lawsuits for slander then because thats what would happen if accusations like this weren't true..

Not sure the events reported aren't true. I just get the feeling they are Wallace's version of events that we're being fed.

All sorts of things get said behind closed doors at footy clubs. Some of the stories I have heard from inside the RFC and other clubs are remarkable. But you never hear about it in the news because what happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. That is a given at all AFL clubs. You could see that in the reactions from the panelists in the footy show last night. They could believe something like this happened but couldn't believe it got out.

So who was the weak link that has been leaking stories to the media? The whole fiasco started when Wallace mentioned to a friend in the media he believed he was getting sacked. It makes sense to me that Wallace's big mouth is the only reason we know about his coments to Morton and Newman's approach to Wallace.

As for Newman, we will probably never know his side of the story. If there is any truth to the stories and there are no major reprecusions, we will probably never see a lawsuit. We will just think ill of our 8-week captain...which I doubt he deserves.

At the risk of sounding naive or having NFI, i am 32 years old and have played senior suburban footy since i was 16. I have played for 6 clubs in 2 states and every club has had a player rep. this persons job is to liaise with the club executive any player issues, be it money, equipment, coaching staff, player discipline etc. in my experience positive outcomes are usually the result. is it unreasonable to expect an AFL club to have a similar position. I understand the massive difference between what i do and multimillion dollar clubs but surely there is a place for this kind of role.

Is this too simple?

After he walked out on Doggies I guess Wallace is determined to see this out no matter what

And make anyone but himself look like the bad guy.

Tim Watson on SEN the other day said the same thing happened at Essendon (in 97 or 98 or something).

Some players wanted Sheedy gone. When they had a meeting about it the players were too gutless to get rid of him. They won a Premiership in 2000.

Who knows. All I know is it should not have got out in the media the way it did and whoever the MOLE is, perhaps they need to be eradicated like the possums in Spud's day.

Some of you supporters are as hysterical as these prima donna players we have at our club. For anyone to condone what Newman did is laughable at best. Sorry folks, life does not work like that.

Like it or lump there are procedures in place to handle issues that may develop, and this process would be to call a meeting with Cameron, Wallace and himself. That's all, as club appointed captain he shouldn't need a posse behind him to back him up. Both Cameron and Wallace would respect what was put before them as the issues at hand. What Newman did was give Wallace an easy hit. Wallace is no fool and he has turned this back on Newman and the others beautifully. He knows he's gone at some stage but he also knows the club has stuck to their guns, as the players have been told to "pull your heads in".

As many have previously noted, you don't have the right to demand your boss resign at your workplace, what gives these bozos the right?

If Newman didn't ask for Wallace to resign then he should be out the front of Punt road vehemently denying that to the media. Conspicuous by his absence??

What's left of course is the untenable position that the club finds itself in again, this time by members of the playing group. It easy to suggest the match committee drop all players responsible, but I'm not sure that's the answer either. Forget the 4 points, I don't think necessarily a win makes it any better, it's about what is best for the club and I just don't know what that is at the moment. :help

Excellent post.

Those supporting Newman are being blinkered by the fact they agree with him. Someone else (who I apologise I can't recall your name) mentioned it earlier in the thread - "Right sentiment, wrong method" or something along those lines.

Fact is, this whole incident smacks of precisely the problem within our club, and given it's clear Terry won't be renewed, I really hope the new coach is given the time & support to cut this kind of cancer out of the club.

Mutiny, real or threatened or even just percieved amongst the playing group towards the coach is not something that we can deem acceptable.

I don't know about others who have played footy on here, but whether at club or state level, we were always taught to respect our coaches, whether we agreed with them or not. Demanding your coach resign because you are incapable if implementing his game plan? I dunno, I just don't see how this is anyones fault bar the children who make up our playing list.
