If I were made RFC coach for a day the one thing I would do is:

I'd change our model from light, running, outside to heavy, aggressive, inside.

From Footscray model to Adelaide model.

Spot on Dyer'ere with maybe just the 2 talls and fleet footed smalls and mids up forward.
Our forward has been the easiest fwd line to rebound from, but with quicker players, smarter players and better skilled players through the middle hopefully our ball movement will become much more profficient and our recruitment is obviously gearing towards this aim which is a positive, we just need some more quality talent ie such as the Cleavers (tall moblie targets) as well as the development of the youngsters such as Lids, Bling, Meyer, Newman, and hopefully JON ect to address this issue and to ice the hard yakka of Tucky, Cogs and Johnno.
Hopefully McGuane, Jay and Thursty Will can add, mobility and height to the defence in the near future with this tiger fan also hoping for one or two more mobile talls to also be snapped up to provide another tall forward and defensive option for quality and much needed depth when Gaspar, Staff, Kell and ultimately Richo are retired.

i would tell pettifer krakouer tivendale chaffey stafford and hyde they WILL SPEND THE YR AT COBURG and start thinking about a new home.ray hall would be told if the right deal comes along he will be traded at yrs end.knobel will be told start taking a few grabs around the ground or there will be little game time.kellaway and gaspar will be told as soon as replacements can be found they will be gone due to their atrocious skills.
and every single youngster will be told steady improvement is expected if not there had better be a good reason and if theres no reason their position will be looked at.anyone with a poor work ethic or poor attitude will be under the microscope.

Not bad Claw, nine senior players and a bunch of the young kids gone in one quick swipe.
Perfect recipe for spending a few more years on the bottom and not only losing sponsors, members, any possible media promotion and money but it will also give our recruiting experts plenty of scope for crying over all the speculative young duds we pick up with our early picks.

[/quote No. 6 duds being told what they should of been told yrs ago. by god they have been like an anchor around our necks weighing us down.ray hall is very tradeable and imo has been very ordinary at rfc ffs if wasnt for the lack of talls at the club he would of gone yrs ago.no coach in their right mind would knock back a deal that was acceptable to both parties.by letting hall know my feelings he would at the least not be shocked if he was offere around as a deal.and if he had any pride it just may inspire him to prove me wrong but i doubt it.
if knobel cant add another dimension to his game he is no good to us or any other club for that matter just ask stkilda.at the very least itmight encourage him to work on a glaring weakness hes had all his career.
and as for all our kids. to succeed at this level you have to work damned hard. by letting them know improvement is expected and if they dont they will be under the pump or if their attitude or work ethic is poor they will be under the pump just look at krakouer what a disgraceful situation that has gone on for yrs. no club can afford to hang onto players who stagnate at a level below afl standard for to long.
as for kellaway and gaspar as they are near the end of their careers and there are no replacements coming thru for gaspar anyway.(i think thursfield is more than capable of doing kellaways job as the 3rd tall down back.)i would probably hold my toungue with these 2. but if some talls were to step up i would be talking to kellaway about retirement.
and as for losing sponsors members etcwhat a lot of crap.the reason people jump of shipis because the spindoctors are always talking up our finals hopes. when they should be honest and tell the truth about where we are at.in fact if they are going to tell lies it should be in the other direction and talk down our chances and then expectations dont get to high.and yes by cleaning out the garbage we may well spend some more time on the bottom but what you forget is we spend most of our time at or near the bottom with the hacks we have anyway.

hence the 5yr plan Claw which TW had stated right from the start. We are now in the 2nd yr of that plan.

1.  Blow, Miller's budget and buy absolutely the best weights coach that can be found and cancel next years holidays in favour of gym practice.  With the possible exception of Simonds, Stafford, Tivva and Chaffey who either don't or won't  ;D need it.  (We will be able to add to this list later in the year)

2.  Let Tivva and Chaffey respectfully know that they have played their last AFL game

3.  Only ever play two of Simmonds, Stafford and Knoebel

4.  Hire a witchdoctor to fix Browney's leg

5.  Put out a Yellow, Black and White calendar to raise funds (we would be sure to get at least one sale from big Staff's stalker  >:D and I reckon from reading some of the threads that this would be a certain sell to some of the PRE Gals)

6.  Grab the best junior we can get at in the National Draft and hire at least three rookies

7.  Let the sixteen players who Claw sacked on his Coaching day exact their revenge by attempting to tickle Claw to death with oversized feathers in the gala fundraising event of Richmond's year .   :hihi

So we hang onto half a list of duds for 3 or 4 yrs thats a great 5 yr plan.to take only 3 kids in your 2nd draft at the club thats a great way to implement a 5 yr plan.wallace has carte blanche for his first couple of yrs he should be doing the hard yards right now just like clarkson at hawthorn is.it seems an awfully stupid way to build a list by hanging on to duds.

To start with the Dawks are in no where near as bad a position as us re; finances, members or years spent with the raggedy arse dragging.
As there are already twenty kids on the list under the age of 21 and they all need to be given at least three, yep read it again THREE years to be able to get their bodies up to AFL standard there is plenty of room for them to grow and natural progression to weed out some of your favourite duds.
After the last couple of seasons under Frawley and the horror runs of losses the last thing we need is to cut the senior players and leave a bunch of young guys still finding their way to lead another bunch of younger kids to another couple of years of slaughter.
The Dawks with a mix of seniors and young kids were almost competitive this year, if they get belted all over the park in 06 and guys like Crawf and Spider pack it in on top of the seasoned players they have lost 04/05 then maybe they will find themselves in the same kind of *smile* we've been struggling through.
Slashing and burning is a recipe for disaster Claw, sitting on our hands won't be much better. The only way to have a chance of success is to build all aspects of the club. One solid organised and controlled step at a time. If we do it right we will be in the hunt, if we charge in blindly and start madly flailing around we might go o.k. for a minute or two but you can guarantee we'll end up sat on our arses again.
